Brilliant legal analysis of the situation and defense of the accused woman. Is she or isn't she guilty? As far as the author could see, she was evidently not and he proceeds to defend her eloquently. The story itself is set in a lush lost island worth of Jurassic Park with characters set on a collision course.

This book is a fairly comprehensive (610 pages) history of World War II trying to make some new interpretations and make use of some more recent archival materials. It is a quick read and engaging, even if you already have read a lot about WWII. What I liked the most about this book was that the author takes a clear perspective - namely that Germany (Hitler) largely lost the war because of several egregious errors (invading USSR, declaring war on the US, etc.) and this had these mistakes been avoided, the war could have been much longer and might even have been won by the Axis powers. I am always suspicious of such revisionist efforts, but this is a moderate one. For example, many of Hitler's worst errors were caused by his ideology, which also provided the basis for his early successes, so the ultimate outcomes would likely not have changed that much. Roberts also provides discussions of decision making approaches that were more or less successful (hint - committee rather than autocratic decision making receives good grades). Finally, Roberts also provides useful detail on battles, campaigns, and generals that do not receive enough attention in more popular histories, for example, the Battle of Kursk in the Russian war and the role of General William Slim in the British campaign against the Japanese in Burma. Overall a very fine book.

You Already Know... `All I need is a lil bit, a lil bit of this and a lil bit of that.' Stuck on repeat and on full blast, 50 may not be the only man beat for this lyric. Lil Bit aka Amber Jones has it bad. Not only does she have Maurice, the king of Newark, loving and caring for her, but pretty boy Samad is vying to be her number one. With Maurice there is history. When she was out of order, he opened his world up inviting her right in providing her with a quality of life most only dream of. Married, with many mistresses to compete for his time, Maurice could never totally be hers. Samad may be devoid the cash, class and contacts, however he's single. Without a doubt, he's unquestionably beneath her standards and can't offer her anything that she's used to. Luckily, she holds the keys to propel him to a different caliber. Emotions get in the way of business and a war emits leaving the residents of Newark ducking and running for cover. STRAPPED is an exceptional urban thriller that sanctions readers to travel the streets of Newark unscathed. Thick with the grime and grit, Al-Saadiq Banks delivers three- dimensional, viable characters and attention-grabbing plots that knock you out! After patiently awaiting the arrival of STRAPPED, I was overjoyed when Al-Saadiq didn't shy away from a chance to deal with a serious subject matter. Indisputably, STRAPPED is one for the collection! Straight like that! OOSA Book of the Month

Continuing the tradition of me not realizing what I'm reading... I was halfway through this one when I noticed on the back, "A ravishing historical novel of one of China's most controversial figures--its only female emperor" Oh! She grew up in the provinces, the daughter of a merchant who was ennobled, spent some time as a nun, went to live in the palace, loved horses and was kind of a tomboy, defied the odds to remain in court through a change in emperors, the second of whom she married and through whom she was able to ascend to emperor herself. Every religion was a blade that allowed its faithful to carve up the lie that is life. I encouraged my people to choose the tool that suited them best. In my eyes, a country's enthusiasm for other customs was the mark of a great civilization that could absorb every difference... Our history, which had been related through the dynasties by Court chroniclers, was a generous source from which men could draw ideas and reflections. Our criteria for elegance became the universal points of reference for good taste. Western kings and far-eastern princes sent their scholars to our Court to study politics, justice, administration, military organization, medicine, literature, the arts, and architecture.

Definitely a fast-paced book that was breathtaking at times which took me into the world of of cyberism and national intelligence. What I love about this book was that the heroine, Susan, was a female. Not only that, but she was one of the important asset to breaking the code. As we may know or realize (or not), our government has many top secret infos and files with top-of-the-line technologies, firewalls, and so on. Imagine when someone was blackmailing the agency and was on the verge of exposing the database to viruses/worms/hackers, that person dies before the agency was able to obtain the passkey to stop the destruction. This book will take you on an exciting adventure in a male-oriented (like Cidamon said) world, and you should not be disappointed (hopefully!)
Reek Reek it rhymes with bleak
LOVED this book!!!!! I felt a whole gambit of emotions while reading this. I felt sorry and angry, I cried and laughed and I think I loved that I found it so easy to relate to the main character. Definitely a page turner. Finished it in a day (with a few hours of sleep sacrifice *willingly*) even with work and a social life so its a quick read. I don't want to spoil it, but i will say that I L-O-V-E-D it and look forward to reading more Melina Marchetta books. This is the kind of book I hope to have for a long time and if I ever have a daughter, hope she reads it because I can't see any girl not relating to it. If YA is your cup of tea, or you just want something light that feels good I definitely recommend it.
