I was recommended this book by my first attending of my 3rd year in medical school. He told me though that I should wait until the end of the year before reading it. I've read about 150 pages now. It tells the story of a group of new interns who essentially go through a period of disillusionment and suffering and are rebuilt into jaded, cynical, lazy, manipulative, sex-addicted doctors. The interesting part so far is that they are actually more capable of treating patients with this mindset than before when they were idealistic and caring. Having not gone through my internship year I can't speak on the accuracy of the story, but I can relate to many parts of the book so far.

This is really a footnote exploring in occasionally breathless and tabloid style, the many alleged affairs of both partners in an unusual marriage. The tone of the book is curious, because I gained the impression that the author was a big supporter of the Roosevelts, and that she wanted to pass judgment on them for the various affairs, but that her admiration inhibited her from doing so. Part of the problem is that the real evidence of the affairs has been turned over so much that the truth is hard to glean from the many stories. There appears to have been plenty of opportunities for the affairs, and certainly before the polio attack appear to have been true. The medical evidence as to Franklin's potency after this is equivocal, but not discussed in any serious way. We are just left with the evidence of opportunity but no actual sex. As fro Eleanor, she is again alleged to have had both lesbian and hetero affairs. There are quotes from passionate letters, and again evidence of opportunities, but I believe the author forgets that Eleanor was a person of her time and although a free thinker, was ultimately a child of her elite upper class background, which may have meant there was much smoke but no fire in the relationships. I think a better focus, explored by others, is the way in which a bright intelligent woman was stifled by the class ridden and sexist attitudes of her times.

I read this book because I really wanted to read "College Girls" by the same author. Very easy read, funny, but didn't make me think too much. I wanted it to get a little meatier, a little more angry. We'll see about "College Girls"...

I read this book cover to cover without stopping. Tara Kelly always pulls me quickly into her world of music and friendship. But this one felt unfinished to me. So much is still unresolved at the end that it hardly feels like it should be ending. Yes, Jasmine has grown a bit and overcome her stage fright. But things are still open in her relationships with her dad, with Sean, even with Nile. There was still so much story left to tell! I guess after the depth of Harmonic Feedback, I expected to be moved more with this follow up. Maybe there's a sequel? Let's hope so. Because I wanted more.

This book is an escape book! When I read this book I was no longer a tired mom of 3 kids, I was a teenager again in love for the first time. I was a fun read...so fun! Ok, so I didn't learn anything from this book, this book didn't have any great moral lesson to it. But as I see it we read for 2 reasons, to learn and to enjoy ourselves. This book is dedicated entirely to enjoyment, and everyone needs that every once in awhile. So --- go, read, enjoy!
I loved "Jam". Beautifully written, very short stories about love.

Anyone who has read a Claire Cook book knows it will be witty, well written and bring the characters through some tough adjustments. This is a fun and satisfying read. I recommend it for "comfort food" reading.
