Such a funny little book! A kid is goofing around in the library (with a nice mention of the Dewey Decimal system). He gets caught and his punishment involves involuntary puns. To be released from the relentless punning, he has to find anagrams, oxymorons, and palindromes. If you have to teach any of these skills, it would be an awesome book to read.

This is the first book that I've ever read by this author and I was struck by the very delicate way she writes. The story was good and kept me guessing right till the end just what the main character's secret was. I liked the flashback style she was writing in. I'm not sure that any of the characters were entirely sympathetic; there were things to dislike about all of them. Yet, I suppose that's what makes them human.

It's rare when I sit down and read a book in one sitting, but with every Griffin and Sabine book, that's what happens. I love Bantock's writing style. Totally pulls me in and little trinkets like love note and photos, to look at thru out the book. Brillant.

Alright, I know I scored this with 3 stars, but the book is about the writing of a dictionary people! Still, having said that, this book is completely FASCINATING!! Nobody does it better writing about incredibly stale subject matter. If anyone can bring life to years and years of documenting word definitions and the interplay between that books writer and a nutbag, Winchester is the guy! If you have a few weeks of your life to waste (probably longer depending on how dry you like your reading) this is the book for you. I honestly do suggest it, it is a completely fascinating subject and the writer is very, very good. It does help to hear his voice on CSPAN or something when he is talking about his books. I saw this once and he had that educated English Oxford accent going on. Now I read it and feel like I'm reading along with Masterpiece Theater!

I tried to memorize The Lady of Shalott for months after reading this book. In fact, I remember where I was when I read the part of the book where she floats down the river and has to be rescued by Gilbert. Waiting for my piano lesson- wishing that I could stay in Anne's world. It was an important book in my life as a 7th grader.
