A few of my thoughts: To write Death as the narrator was brilliant. The story being told from a literal omniscient point of view gave such a unique reading experience. In addition, Death's personality was stamped throughout the book. Any minor grievances I might have had with the book were completely erased with Max's birthday gift of The Standover Man, Rosa's visit to Liesel's school to tell her Max had finally woke and the bread in the road. The entire book is worth these three events alone. I don't even know what to say about Hans, Rosa and Rudy. I cannot type while crying. Lastly, this book had everything that The Poisonwood Bible was missing. Any book I read in the future wishing to say something about the human condition will be held up the this standard. Highly, highly recommend it.

Not worth reading. Poorly written and a terrible plot.

Cyteen is a gripping and intense science fiction novel, set on the planet Cyteen in Cherryh's Merchanter Universe about 300 years in our future, when human cloning has become a reality. Ariane Emory is a brilliant scientist, and when she dies under mysterious circumstances, her successors create a replicate of Emory and struggle to duplicate her childhood environment as well, so that the replicate will grow up under the same conditions and become the same person; Cyteen is the story of the second Ariane Emory. The characters are complex and their relationships intriguingly tortuous; the plot is intricate (and I feel that I'll probably get more of it on a re-read); and the world is very detailed and convincing. Although it was originally published fifteen years ago, Cherryh's exploration of genetics, environment, and nature vs. nurture continues to resonate and fascinate.

A good story. Well written. Liked it a lot. William Stoner is the son of a poor farmer, who through circumstances gets the opportunity to attend university and study agriculture. In his sophomore year, he is drawn to literature and therein lies the rest of the tale. While on one hand the reader may see his life as incredibly sad, I think that interpretation is up for debate. A good read. Recommend.

I recently reread this. It's still as good as I remembered. There are lots of twists, schemes, and hidden agendas. The characterization is strong.
Trudi Canavan's books were recommended to me while I was searching for something to read at a Waterstone's in Northern Ireland. I have to say, it was well worth the cost in euros. Enchanting, entrancing, compelling, and well-developed. A must for fantasy-lovers.
