Poems. Difficult read...unless you know some Irish History. Difficult History...unless you know some Irish.
It gave me a very clear view into a girl's life where she was being judged.

I never finished this book. The low rating is primarily due to my take on this kind of self-help, spirtual guide type of book. The writing is not bad. And much of what this guy says is relevant. I just feel that there is nothing here that is not readily apparent and learned from everyday experience. It seems odd to read this kind of thing in search of the wisdom in the first place.
it was certainly an enjoyable read, but it was like listening to over the top zappa...too many countermelodies for the sake of there being such.

I really enjoyed this book, and had a hard time putting it down. It wasn't my favorite in comparison to Quinn's other books, probably because Roman legions aren't my favorite cultural element, but the characters are so intriguing and addicting. I really wish I could continue straight into the next book! I continue to tell my students to read Quinn's books, and this one is no exception.

Ok, so I just finished it and I have to say that it was just a so so experience. It was interesting to read the adventures of a genre defining character but at the same time I found it slightly boring. The world ERB creates is wonderful and interesting and it clearly deals with issues of the day, but for me it is just not complex enough for me to truly enjoy. It was really like watching a full grown adult playing in the ball pit with a bunch of babies. Everything the Martians (babies) could do, John Carter could do infinitly better and with more pinache. And I guess thats the point of the book. This is a book about a superhero before there really were superheros so you can see all the growing pains woven into the book. There are clearly elements that would later on work their way into Superman or Indiana Jones and definately Tarzan. All in all, a good book for those who want to understand where many of our archtypical characters come from.
