Fairly informative book that describes a lot of careers for "bookworms". I started reading it when I was doubting my choice of college majors, but actually found out that my degree plans, while not suitable to every possible job, actually is a lot more suited to my career goals than I believed! It could have been more in-depth about necessary degrees and salaries, but it gives you a basis, which is more than a lot of other "source books" I've read. Plus, it gives a lot of information on other important reading materials. Bookworms who can't see themselves doing any job where they don't get to read at least part of the day definitely need to take a look at this book.

Funny, funny. ...."'But have no fear, Aunt Dahlia, I will fix everything.' I have alluded earlier to the difficulty of staggering when you're sitting down, showing that it is a feat of which I, personally, am not capable. Aunt Dahlia, to my amazement, now did it apparently without an effort. She was well wedged into a deep arm-chair, but, nevertheless, she staggered like billy-o. A sort of spasm of horror and apprehension contorted her face. 'If you dare to try any more of your lunatic schemes...'"
Mawer has a terrific way of telling stories. Concurrently telling the story of the main character and his mother, each as they were coming of age, it allows the reader to see the parallels between the lives of the two. Mawer also chooses to write about issues and decisions that anyone could come across. This was really a fantastic read.

A definitive guide for people who seldom see a wild animal that has not been flattened by dozens of vehicles and baked by the sun to an indistinct fur, scale or feather-covered patty. All I can say is I loved it. What a wonderful book and I was sucked in from the beginning. I am always happy when a book can surprise me with a different twist to this story of boy meets girl and they fall in love. And you get two for one. Enough said I loved it!

Okay, I liked the book. A lot. But there were things that annoyed me. A lot. What I HATED is that Clare mixes up all her series. Infernal Devices, Mortal Instruments and whatever the next series is called. Why Tessa was there!? Her presence seemed a bit pointless. Her name was appeared in many pages and in the end we even see her. For someone that doesn't or didn't read the prequel might be confusing. Same goes for Jem, but he doesn't look like someone just threw him in the story, like Tessa and Emma Castairs. His appearance had a reason. Or I thought so. About Emma Castairs. I thought she wasn't needed in the plot of this series. I believe that the author added her to the "cast" just because she's gonna be the next main character in her next series. And of course there was too much going on between her and Jules. And they are 12. Clare could show us smoother that Emma's gonna fell for Jules. The book was well written and there were many descriptions, which I liked. When an author writes a big book, s/he should be careful so there would be no repeating. Well, Clare wasn't careful. I read the same quote in Latin over 3 times! And I get it. Shadowhunters know a lot, but there are TOO many freaking quotes in other languages. It gets Annoying! Why four stars, if I hated so much the book? Because I'm crazy. Shadowhunters are amazing, their world is well built. The plot is so interesting and the bad guy completely insane and the plot twists are there. And there is love, war, magic. And I can't help it, but to like the book. And I think I'm crazy enough to read more. I don't know. I have a whole year to decide what I'm gonna do.

Learning about OI and following the many, many acts of drama kept this book interesting. Definitely a fun read which would be a great book for a book club.

My advice with this one is not to stop reading. Don't give up on it - the first two chapters are deliberately difficult to understand, but the more you read, the more it becomes clear - and you gain a real appreciation for the devices and styles Faulkner has chosen to use, and the reasons why. By the end of this book, instead of cursing it out, I really enjoyed it and it's definitely a book that will gain greater resonance when I reread it. Give it a go.

I hated this book so much that I actually considered not reading anymore for a week or so.
