What book did I read? I read Anthem by Ayn Rand (student edition). This is a pretty good book. But it is also a pretty difficult book to read at the same time. Because the people like didn't have names there names were like a word and a bunch of numbers, but overall it was a pretty good book, but it had some romance which i'm not really into The main characters were mostly Equality 7-2521, Liberty 5-3000, Union 5-3992,and International 4-8818. And when every one is a kid they are at a student council and then once they get older they get put in to different groups and each group does a different job and are in the same place as every one else in there group. And its a sin for guys and girls to talk to each other and they break that rule, Equality 7-2521 talks to Liberty 5-3000. And in the beginning Equality 7-2521 and International 4-8818 found a dark hole and it was left from the Unmentionable times and its hundreds and hundreds of years old. And they are in like the dark ages in/of the future. The genre of this book would probably be romance, Greek mythology,spiritual, and just like a mix of different genres. I think there are two versions of this book there is a normal version and a student version, and this is not part of a series. I would recommend this book to people that like romance and people that like to read books that are "different"

This book was lacking in a few things: a) A likeable hero - Alex didn't appeal at all. It just seemed like he always had ulterior motives and didn't care about Livia at all. Not a believable character. b) Development of romance/love - I read these books for one reason, and that is the romance. There was none in this book. The characters didn't have that lightning bolt moment when they realize they are in love, and any lead-up type moments were very very boring. It was just a very unsatisfying novel, which is dissapointing as I usually like Jane Feather books.

You can't use a simple review to do justice to the weirdness that is Jasper Fforde and his literary word-play novel-type things. They are un-explainable. There are plots within plots, extraneous sub-plots that end up linking into the whole, witty and double-entrdre laden prose, puns right and left, and throughly unusual (and yet extremely ordinary) characters. I highly reccommend any and all of Ffordes novels to anyone wanting to take their brain for a spin. You will particularly enjoy them if you have a sound, working knowledge of literature. Even if you don't, you might enjoy them anyway. But be prepared - they are like nothing else I have ever read. I can't wait for the 6th one to come out.

second in series - both good, enjoyable reads. the author certainly has a knack for drama and "ah-ha" moments. will look forward to the third book which comes out later this year.
