Possibly the best entry in this long-running series. Tight, well-crafted, fast-paced, suspenseful. Two of my favorite supporting characters, Trent and Al, are spotlighted this time out, in a wonderfully twisty story. The worldbuilding takes a big step forward as well, with much more information about demonesses, the elves and a coming crisis skillfully woven into the narration. Couldn't put it down. A real win. Oh, and two excellent and long overdue kisses, one that paid off years of my fannish longing :)

I enjoyed this book, and I certainly admire the work that Greg Mortenson has done. I enjoyed learning more about life and culture in Pakistan. However, I didn't think it was the most well-written book, as sometimes is the case when the person with the story to tell isn't really an author!

A SPECTACULAR book. I tend not to like non-fiction/autobiography but this book blew me away. It chronicles the life of a high ranking general in communist Romania who exposed the corruption of the government and was sent to prison for doing so. Half the chapters are written by him, and tell of the horrific treatment he underwent. The other half are written by his daughter, reflecting on what she had to endure as being a daughter of a "traitor to the state". Despite the depressing topic, it is an uplifting book, and will leave you believing that courage, and integrity do exist, and that even in the worst of circumstances people can maintain their dignity. The book touches on themes such as heroism, family, patriotism, freedom, religion, and hope, and as such gives plenty of fodder for a book group discussion.

A true masterpiece. Hosseini never fails to please me. If he ever writes another book, I will be one of the first people in line to buy it. I cannot even tell which of his first two books I liked more! I probably love them both, ["The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns":]. Remarkable. Truly excellent. A definitely gorgeous read.
