Audio book. Great book!

Definitely one for when you're looking for a) erotic fiction and b) a quick read. I actually liked both characters and wish that there had been a full book written about them instead of just an erotic short. That said, for what it is, well done.

A large, colorfully illustrated (with line drawings) encyclopedia of an imaginary land, written in an imaginary language (the numbering system for the pages has been decoded, but there's still debate over whether the script throughout the book is meaningful or not) Outrageous surrealism combined with a clean, orderly structure that thus makes it more disturbing and intriguing than outright surrealism. Beautiful, mind-bending, and worth any price you have to pay for it.

Muito bom. Um bocadinho arrepiante. Capítulo preferido: as duas faces da moeda.

Never in all my life has 100 little pages made me contemplate suicide...violent suicide. i had to finish it. i had no choice (yay college!). every page was literally painful. am i supposed to feel sorry for him? because i don't. i feel sorry for all of Africa getting invaded with dumbasses like this guy. oh and in case you didn't get it...the "heart of darkness" is like this super deep megametaphor of all metaphors. and in case it wasn't clear enough, conrad will spend many many useless words clearly explaining the layers of depth his metaphor can take. oh man...my heart is dark...and i'm also in the middle of Africa...and it's dark...and depressing...get it...get it...

I was hesitant about reading this one as James Patterson's name is on the front but once I realized it was a collection of short stories by various authors I decided to try it out. Like most books with a variety of authors sharing a short story you will find some you read just to get through the book and some you read where you wish the story would just go on. This is a good way to get introduced to some authors you have probably never even heard of. Go ahead and try it but do not be fooled by the subtitle, "Stories to keep you up all night" because that is just wishful thinking on the part of the publisher. This book probably did keep the publisher up all night just wondering how they were going to make their money back from publishing this book.
I don't know what it was about After Dark that didn't gel with me, but I strongly suspect it was the writing style. It uses a present-tense narration from an inclusive plural 1st person POV - As the narrator says, "We" float around like an invisible camera. Beyond that, a lot of the language seems extremely clunky, fragmented, unprofessional. I don't know whether it was Murakami himself trying a new style, or translator Jay Rubin (but he's been just fine in the past), but to me, it just didn't work. There was no real conclusion to the "story" if you could call it that, no light shed on any of the mystery - even in Murakami's usual cryptic way - and really not much going on. The characters and their quirks, usual for Murakami, felt transparent and overwrought. All in all, it was a very unsatisfactory end to a long wait for Murakami's next work.
I read this thinking it had to be better than the first book. The first one was slow and dry and this one was pretty much the same. I haven't read book number three and don't plan to.

This book was really not what I had expected. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read about the main character falling in love with a woman after her marriage dissolves. I really like how Picoult writes from all the character's personal perspective. I think that it is so wise for people to learn to look for what other's are going through and what they are thinking.

..."it's pain that changes our lives." Let me try to type this correctly: Men are pigs and ruin women's lives... but, women can be just as bad as trying to ruin women's lives.
