This book gave me another perceptive on this woman of the Bible. She's my namesake; i know her story from the Bible, but it's kinda hard to relate to something that happened more than 2000 years ago. But Card put together Rebekah's story so well that I felt like i was stepping through time!

I was also reading this book, but kept falling asleep/being bored with it. I was totally on this 'classics' binge -- at least in the buying sense since i am completely incapable of actually starting or finishing one as of now. This one wasn't so bad, i've gotten a fair bit of the way through- maybe i'll pick it up again after the 'science' and 'magazine' binges i am currently on.

I was still enjoying the books at this point, but very few fantasy stories really NEED to be spread over more than three or four books (hell, few need to be trilogies - I wish fantasy authors would just tell a nice, 300 page tale sometimes). I still really liked Jordan's characters and his world, but at times it was just TOO much. Everything was good, but as much as I love miso soup, cookies and cream ice-cream, and pizza, I don't want them all at once.

right up there with other close encounters with the war, like milligan (although there's no reason to believe this is autobiographical) or thirkell. short, pointed and funny, also as economic a portrait of personal isolation as i've read in a long time. Carr is new to me (thank you, guardian books) but i'll be seeking out his other books.
