I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and grew to love the characters even more. There was a part at the end with Dionysis that kind of threw me off. I'm still not sure what to make of it, but overall, reading this book was a pleasant experience.

This memoir of an unabashed foodie (before foodies were cool) details a life of seeking the satiety of all appetites--food, sex, love, and art via recipes. Her tales are varied (convincing her Midwestern parents to send her to Paris for a year in her late teens), enviable (getting paid to rub elbows with the most influential restauranteurs in NYC), and simply bizarre (sleeping with Elvis while wearing white gloves). Unlike most musicals, her diversions (recipes which are easy, tasty, and the sort of thing you can picture--erm, taste--while reading) further the plot, such as "ex-sister-in-law orange pour cake" after describing her early marriage. Well thought out, fun writing, strong editing. A great read.

One of those books who shows you that everything is connected. The main research revolves around the grail and also about serpents, and other reptiles, througout time, religion and science.

I like this one. It's not really full of so much legal stuff, but it's also juicy and very interesting. It's probably my third or fourth book by John Grisham, so I've known his similar style of writing, the type of characters, the conversations, so I am beginning to understand more. What I really enjoy about this book is that it has a nice plot, though normal characters it is nicely written and keeps us going. It sticks to the facts yet more emotional. I liked how the story ended, and I like everything about it.
I kinda "read" this book. In other words, I skimmed some of the overly verbose Ambrosesque chapters. This book still tells a great story of several men who had some serious "stones."

I will keep this short. In this book, absolutely nothing happens. There is no character development. There is no plot. Instead, the reader, who has so generously given Robert Jordan so much of his/her money over the course of the series, is treated to descriptions of dresses of characters whom we don't care about and who have no actual bearing on the plot. My advice to those slogging through this series: Read the last ten pages of this book, and then continue on to Knife of Dreams, a flawed book, but at least one where something happens. Then, if you're a truly charitable individual, go to your local bookshop, buy all the copies, and burn them so that nobody will have to be subjected to this utter shit.

Here I am again with another completely unbiased 5-star review of an anthology that just happens to contain one of my own stories (in this case, a little piece called "Jumping the Rails"). A few of my favorites, though: "Grass Elephant" - another extremely engaging story from M. Keaton set in the wilds of Africa. "Cicada Summer" - Jon Klement's heartwarming tale of childhood and alien invasion. "The Big Golden Apple" - by Cindy MacLeod, set in a steampunk Manhattan with a surprising connection to our own. On the whole, an even stronger collection than Dreams volume one. Looking forward to volume three!

I was so lucky to work with Greg at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, where he signed this book for me. He and Trisha are two of the kindest people I know. Some favorite moments: Misery will be your pillow and you will not sleep. To speak is to leap. There's lots of weird malice loose on the planet. Rock being only A slower flowing. Grief leading me by the nose. Human heart-- that tender engine. Loss--that's what The sea teaches. grief perpetual companion of love. The heart's a deep well. "Another thing I didn't know I loved." Poem that opened you--opposite of a wound.

Another great one by Woolf--deep, somber but full of light, To the Lighthouse allows the reader to enter into an entire history of one family and to finish the novel with the feeling that they knew every one of them.
