This book was hard to get into at first. It reads like a diary but it isn't even mentioned that the main character is in fact "writing" it until later and the why is on the very last page. Book it turns out to be a really good read. I was thinking it would be a great movie (you know how we all love our football/romance/comedy movies). I did read on Murdock's website that ABC Family is looking into making it a tv series which would be great. I would definitely watch. The main character, D.J., makes a lot of discoveries about herself and her family. She lives on a dairy farm (hence the name) and does all the work herself b/c her dad is injured and her brother and mother are too busy. She is offered help by her own school's rival QB. The book goes through their growing relationship as she trains him to be a better football player and person, in turn he ends up helping her do the same! I would recommend this for others to read.
Fabulous. I devoured it in the last 2 days. Megan Abbott writes like a cross between Jim Thompson, James M. Cain and Doris Day. I think I'm going to log off now and drink a gin rickey and eat a cream puff.

The only thing that this left me with was don't let time pass without telling people you appreicate them and get over the petty little indifferences you have with your family, because they will be gone some day. Very slow, I had to finish though to see how it ended. Could have quit, should have quit. Almost gave it one star, but I save those for books I just really don't like at all.

I was debating whether to give this book three or four stars, but I really think it deserves praise for its subject. This is a captivating aspect of WWII, featuring Belgian refugees exiled to Nazi occupied France, the hospitality they encounter in the remote mountain villages of the southern country, and their role in the Resistance. I was previously unaware of the political upheaval in France during Germany’s control, the complacency of the Vichy government, and the role of simple peasants in harboring fugitives and supporting the defiant rebels. I wanted to give this book more praise because of the rich historical detail, the realistic and sympathetic characters, and the great atmosphere. However, the writing was pedestrian, the dialogue bordered on absurd, and there were so many mundane details that could have been omitted to make the book shorter and more fast-paced. Although, another reason I opted for four stars is because Amazon Encore plays a pivotal role in giving authors good exposure, which I think this book deserves. Sure, it had its flaws, but it was decent historical fiction (though based on true events) and its positives outweighed the negatives. I received a complimentary copy of this book via the Amazon Vine program.
my mom read this to me when I was little. I can't even begin to describe how much I love it. it's at turns whimsical and heartwarming. I can't wait to read it to my son.

I've really enjoyed Derting's other series. And while this one sounded like a drastic difference from her other work, I was looking forward to what it might offer. I was impressed. The story actually dragged a bit at the beginning. While I got the impression that this is more of a dystopian novel, it read more like it was set in the past. But, as the story picked up the pace, I feel in love with the storyline and even the characters. I also decided that it had a fairy tale sort of feel to it, which made it that much more interesting. I found Charlie to be a very interesting character. She's born in the middle class, so she has more privilege that most, but not as much as the high class (and of course the royalty). The fact that she can understand any language spoken constantly puts her in danger since no one is suppose to understand a language above their station. I liked how protective she is of her family and her friends. And while we see very little of it until late in the book, I got the impression that she would do anything to protect those she cares about when forced too. But, she's seems mostly cautious about it all. I liked the rest of the cast of characters. I especially liked Max, even though I knew who he really was way before Charlie did. There was something about him that just really worked for me. It was interesting that most of them seemed to be from the middle class, but I enjoyed the inclusion of the girl for the high class. I would be curious to see if more of the low class make it into the series. I thought the setting was interesting. The queen's life is different that the normal story and her policies are extreme. It's all done to keep this country cut off from anybody else, because the people might see that there might be something better out there. While, I dislikes how the classes were separated and how those who acted out of their station were treated, I understood how it fit into the story. Overall, I just really enjoyed this story. It was fun and had many of the elements that I enjoy. I'm looking forward to more of it!

Which is funny, cause I thought If I Stay would be aaaaamazing (It was good, just not that good. LOL) Bahah, I suck at writing reviews. WHATEVER. IT WAS AN AMAZING BOOK. PERIOD. <3

I LOVED the characterization in this book! They all really stand out and I could understand and connect with them. There was a lot of mystery and suspicion and you don't really know who the bad guy (or gal) is so even when I liked all the characters I was picking them apart trying to figure out if they could be a killer. Because you see, this is a murder mystery. Clarity lives with her mother and brother, both of which have 'gifts' and they run a psychic shop near the boardwalk in a tourist town. But things go a little crazy when a girl is found murdered and then the Mayor decides to let Clarity in on the case to use her ability to pick up what she can. She has to work with her ex boyfriend and the new detectives son, who is super yummy. Actually both boys are hotties and Clarity has her work cut out for her if she plans to keep hating on these boys. Clarity's mother and her brother are both very important to the story and both were great. I felt a lot of anger at her brother for some of his decisions but it was clear that him and Clarity were very close. Their mother is very eccentric and I just loved her personality. I really like it when a parent is more involved in the story and she definitely was awesome. Clarity was my favorite though. She's got a tough skin from being picked on all her life because of her ability and she's not afraid to stand up for herself. She's outspoken and she's tough. She doesn't spend any of her time being scared. She's a girl that does a good job at taking care of herself while still getting stuff done. She felt authentic to me. In her thoughts and actions. The romance was good. It wasn't really an important part of the story but there was flirting and some kissing, but Clarity doesn't really know what she wants. She's angry at her ex boyfriend but still has feelings for him and the new guy is super hot but doesn't believe in her ability. I really had to give her kudos for how she handled everything. At least 90% of the time. I really really loved this book and HIGHLY encourage you to pick it up if you haven't already. I'm very anxious to read more about her, her family and her man candy.
