The illustrations really enhanced my enjoyment of these poems. I especially loved "The Cow" with its accompanying drawing.

Nothing special beyond what I know as just slightly over standard drunken idiocy of college kids, and especially college frat/sorority kids. Or maybe I just had a serious drinking problem in college and didn't realize it because I know a whole lot of people, self included, who partook in some of the same behaviors as the author.

Most people don't want to see lying as evil - what if it is the heart of evil! What if it is those people "who seem innocent but when you get down to it are subtly manipulating everyone around them" that are truly the most destructive in society? This book examines that idea!
** spoiler alert ** I won this book through Goodreads First Reads. :-) When I first read the synopsis of this book, it reminded me of The Talking Eggs by Robert D. San Souci. In that book, there are two sisters, one lazy and one hardworking. They both help an old woman and get a reward; the hardworking sister breaking open eggs to get dresses and diamonds, while the lazy sister breaks her eggs to get snakes and toads. It was one of my favorite children's books. In Toads and Diamonds, both sisters have their faults, though not huge faults by any means, but both the gifts bestowed by the goddess Naghali have a reason for being there. I really enjoyed the way the story carried on, especially Diribani's wanting to help others with her diamonds and other stones and Tana's doing what she could for the villagers when she saw them basically kidnapped. Each sister had to figure out why they were chosen to speak either diamonds or snakes and it tested their faith while they were bestowed with the gift. Although it took a while for each sister to see that the goddess gave them these gifts to help her followers, they both grew up during their separation from each other. It was great to see both points of view of each of the sisters as the chapters progressed. I would definitely recommend this book!

This is Follett's best book, and his biggest. I can tell he really tried here, and I have to say that for the first 500 pages or so, it was pretty good. There are some good, promising characters here, complicated heroes and complicated-er villains, blood oaths and battle cries and big, big buildings. But Follett gets pulled down by some completely unwarranted female empowerment, love of droopy old boobs, and... But, you know what? That's not really a problem. It's just that the book goes on for too long. 500 pages in, I just want the villain to be dead already. You get tired of the characters because they have nothing new to give you. So read to page 500, and then have someone steal the book from you. You'll be better off.

A good book, worth reading. Krugman is nearly as good a writer as John Kenneth Galbraith. He makes it interesting and readable. Unfortunately, this was a book about the currency crisis in the late 1990's that he's updated slightly to be more relevant to today. It doesn't really work so well. he'd have done better to write a new book.
Very good book.

It was a short book but really a great story. I could see this becoming a Hallmark movie :) When a book makes you cry at the Prologue you know it's going to be a good one. I really liked it!
