This book is very long, and very dense, so I'm still working my way through it. It's about the cosmic events that transpired to bring two friends together, and their various life activities and affairs that eventually result in one of their children being born. I hear the ending's amazing and that it synthesizes nicely (an archangel conferring with God on the task of uniting the two is how the book actually starts out). It's set in holland in the 1960's. It has sort of a light and airy feel to it, and is rife with discourses and asides on philosophy, music, art, and politics. There's just so much to this book that it's hard to articulate.

Ik vond de schaduw van de wind helemaal geweldig. Ik las het in twee of drie dagen uit. Het wat trage verloop aan het begin wordt meer dan goed gemaakt door de snelle opeenvolging van de gebeurtenissen later in het verhaal.
The third book of the time series by Madeline L'Engle, (with A Wrinkle in Time and The Wind in the Door; some also include Many Waters to make it the "time quartet") A Swiftly Tilting Planet is probably the most exciting and suspenseful. It details the story of the youngest Murry son, Charles Wallace in his teens as he travels through time in a race to save the world from nuclear war.
One of his better books written under something other than S. Andrew Swann.

It's so wonderful when another old fave keeper stands the test of time. Love love love! PSA: Again, I have so many good memories tied to this book that I can't look at it objectively, so if you read at my recommendation for the first time, do so at your own risk.

This was an outstanding book. I loved every minute of it.
this book whas so touching. though the ending was predictable, it still was exactly what should have happened. it was fascinating to read about a time and place you dont often hear about.
My absolute favorite in the series. Unfortunately, _The End_ didn't really live up to it (or my expectations). Even so, it is an immensely clever series that anyone should read.

I feel like this book had two stories. One of which was cut in half and turned into bookends for the other. While, I enjoyed it and thought the suspense was done well, I didn't care for the way the story was arranged with the two plot lines.
