My beef with this book was that I spent the first 400 pages reading it before it really felt like it was getting to the conflict or something, and then it ended abruptly. I know that there are more books to come, but I wish it had given up a little more before ending... Major cliff hanger, which is not my fav. thing in a book...especially when I have to wait so long for the next installment. :) It wasn't that it just left off in the middle of the conflict, but that there were SO MANY unanswered questions... I would have liked to have seen at least a few things wrapped up a little more...

This book does not seem to own the tragic end of normal Hedayat books, seems to be too daily at the first glance, which is and is not at the same time. It is a deeper look at the facts of the persian society, facts, which do not seem to have really changed since his time. And does also posess a dark humor.

What an amazingly great book! I loved how realistic the author made magic seem. Great Britain became a mysterious ancient world full of secrets that I want to go explore now. I absolutely LOVED the characters, the contrast of the magicians, the love story, the creepy darkness of it all, the gentleman and the way the author wove history and magic together in a way that I couldn't (and didn't want to) distinguish between. Granted it took me a good 300 pages to get really interested, but after that I was hooked. Don't give up on it! It is so worth the read.

Interesting short Sookie story. Didn't do a ton of explaining of anything extra, but did show some of the "quieter" characters a bit more. The balance of the stories are good as well, although I probably would have enjoyed them more if I had more of a base with the characters. But a few of the stories are great, cause they grabbed me and sucked me in quickly. I guess that is a good sign for a short story collection.
