I just finished this and I'm still trying to figure out if I liked it. It was very absorbing and quick, but I can't say I loved it.

One of my favorites in the Harry Potter series, it is the only one without a direct conflict with Voldemort, though it has a lot of elements that make you forget about that. Still one of my favorite books!

I had to take a few days to ruminate on this book (colossus that it is) before writing up my review. So here goes: Overall I liked it. It wasn't quite as good a finale as book three was or as Clockwork Prince was but it was still pretty decent and set some things up for Clare's next series. There were some parts that made me laugh out loud, parts that made me tear up (view spoiler), parts that made me roll my eyes until they nearly got stuck (ahem Clary's speech to Jace at the end), and parts that annoyed me. I think the biggest problems for me were how long the book was and how many things didn't seem to really further the plot and how many different POVs we were given throughout the book. Some of the information that wasn't really pertinent to the plot was interesting in a world-building aspect, but it slowed the story way down for me, especially during the dramatic finale scenes which nearly took me out of the story and made it very hard for me to even finish as I would be so wrapped up in the big fights and then wrenched out of it with other scenes. And the POVs, while giving us insight into happenings throughout the world, were just too numerous. It reminded me a little of A Song of Ice and Fire except less well-done because of the brevity and choppiness of the multiple POVs (also it's usually not a good idea to introduce a new POV near the middle of the book. It just threw me off to suddenly have this new person narrating part of the story but only sporadically. It just seems to me that the story would've been neater and more coherent if there had been a finite number of narrators who could relay that same information from their own POV. I think with a little more editing and paring down to the essential bits of the story would've helped this book a lot. If the other information might have been pertinent it could've been related in a short story or e-novella or some other way so as not to bog down the story as a whole. That's just my two cents. (view spoiler) It certainly wasn't as disappointing and borifying as the fourth book (seriously I think that one put me to sleep and annoyed me all at the same time) but it certainly wasn't the big grand finale I was expecting or hoping for. And that makes me sad. Oh well, hopefully the next series comes back with a vengeance (and Church! Though seriously how is that cat still alive? What is it really?). (view spoiler)

Pets play such important roles in our lives and this book exemplifies that. Opal grows through the relationship she has with Winn-Dixie and the strength it gives her.
What happens when everyone over the age of 14 completely disappears in less than a second? Gone tells the story of the teenagers who are left to deal with shelter, food, and especially protection, since there are bullies trying to take over the new FAYZ. An excellent read!

As much as I love to listen to Garrison's stories on his show, I could not make my way past the first 15 pages. I violated my own "read at least 50 pages" rule. Maybe if I listened to it on tape--in SMALL doses? Or maybe I have too many great books waiting in line to be read and enjoyed to be patient with a mediocre book.

Thought this book was better than Twilight! Great story! Interesting characters.

This was actually my first audiobook experience, and I'm a little regretful that it was. I really didn't like the narrator's way of reading, especially when she imitated male voices. It made the male characters seem a lot less masculine than I think they were intended to be. Also, the language style in the entire book was a bit too immature for my taste, and I found the story itself to be uninteresting and a bit too absurd. Being of Native American descent, I was also appalled by the integration of the culture into the story. The authors obviously have a weak view of Native American culture, enough to incorporate it into a vampire book in a very bad way. I'm surprised I even finished it, and I'd gladly erase my memory of it if I could.
