Saddening, intriguing, a beautiful take on the mundane. Worth a few re-visits for sure.

A sympathetic, personal tale - what spoke to me was his own long-time uncertainty, his unsureness that the medical profession was meant for him, long after he was in medical school. He portrays well all the fears of making critical life-and-death decisions, particularly at the beginning, and for good or ill, how one learns to wing it. Made me all the more cautious about trusting myself to a hospital or a doctor's care.

This book and The Alchemist are two books in the same category for me. I know a lot of people who thought each was an incredible, life changing book. I thought both had some good points, but I thought the authors were trying too hard to make profound statements. It was all far to obvious and a little annoying. Maybe it's because they touch on a lot of things in life of which I feel I already have a firm grasp. It's a nice little book, but not great!

Another top favorite of mine. Corrie Ten Boom is such an inspiration. Not once in such horrific circumstances did she give up or doubt God, but was able to see God in all situations.

I read this in the late 80s, when I was in 7th or 8th grade. I checked it out from my school library because it had a jet on the cover. I'm in no position to review it, as it was so long ago, but I liked the story and I'm glad I read it while the Cold War was still on.

Boring read with a predictable Christian moral.

Ive always been drawn to people's true life stories, particularly those that are tales of overcoming some of the worst events in life that anyone can imagine. Vanessa Steel endured years of abuse and neglect by those she was supposed to have been able to trust and yet, out of all that, today she is a happy woman, with a family of her own who love and adore her like she does them. Stories like this are testament to the strength of the human spirit. It wasn't the easiest of reads, but it was thought provoking and I couldn't help but smile as Vanessa slowly got her life back and found the happiness she deserves.

I love Lorna Landvik! Her books are everything that is good about the Midwest. Her characters make me want to cheer for them or wish them dead, but most of all, make me care about what happens. Landvik has such a gift for humorous writing, that I wish she could put out a new book every month instead of every year or so, and I anxiously await her next book the minute I finish the current one.
This was my favorite in death book so far.
