I enjoyed this book to a point. It was quaint, about a mentally slow kid in a small town. But the ending was so horrible. If I had know, I never would have picked it up.

I remember liking The Name of the Wind a lot, but I'm almost done with The Wise Man's Fear and at this point I pretty much hate Kvothe. I think the world is interesting, love the University parts because I have a weakness for magic school stories, like most of the other characters, but Kvothe himself in this book gets far too overpowered and full of himself. Also, the level of wish-fulfillment/Mary-Sueness in his character has gone way over the top. (Exhibit A: the part with Felurian. Please.) And I really don't like his whole new "women are instruments waiting to be played" attitude. I'm finding myself cheering every time he gets some kind of smackdown from another character. -- I kept reading and finished the book because I was still enjoying it overall, and I wouldn't call it bad, but I wouldn't call the series the best fantasy series of the decade either.

This book tore me up...and left me a little bit broken at the end...a bit depressed but also a bit hopeful. I'll admit that I read this because I saw the trailer for the upcoming movie and I couldn't stand not knowing what happened to Mia and Adam. I finished it in one sitting and God...it all hurts but everything is better for it.
