fun fun fun! not really what i expected, and although i wouldn't say carey's the bestest writer ever, her style still grabbed me and when i picked this up, i really wanted to finish as soon as i could so i would know the story, not just to get it done. the beginning dragged a bit because of all the set up, and the storyline wth joceline was a bit obvious, and at times things got a bit verbose, but other than that, two thumbs up!

I can't believe it took so long for me to read this. This book is a true masterpiece. I'm going to have to brush up on my Spanish so I can read it again in the original.

This series is not for everyone, but i will say that despite occasionally being a bit heavy on the political soapbox, it never ceased to make me laugh out loud.

I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more had I realized there was a glossary w/ names in the back of the book before I was halfway through. I know my Greek mythology pretty well, but a lack of knowledge of the Roman equivalents made it tough to enjoy the first half. All that to say, if you are going to give this book a try, make sure you know your Roman mythology or have a glossary handy.

James Lovelock believes that by the end of this century, most of the planet will have been rendered uninhabitable by runaway climate change. I'm agnostic about the prospect.

Interesting study over the years that culminates in an understanding of how being conscientious can improve your life span.
okay, so i really loved this book. i thought it was a fascinating concept and experiment to go without electricity and many if not all of the modern conveniences that i couldn't live without. the thing that sticks out in mind from the book is the idea that working side-by-side creates a kind of comeradery that transcends the monotony of the work. or something like that. i doubt everyone will like this book as much as i did, but you might want to give it a shot. as a warning, his writing style gets a bit scholarly in parts and makes for slower reading.

Those trogs are kind of hard for me to handle/forgive, and the illustrations kind of made me feel like they didn't think my own imagination was strong enough to picture these fantastical settings/creatures...but it's otherwise a rollicking adventure. I almost wish I had children so I could read it to them as a bedtime story.
我不记得我从这本书中学到了什么。 但是我记得当时,我认为那太不可思议了。 我认为这不是我今天第一次来,但我一定会计划重新阅读并重新评估它。
