Too Victorian: I could not separate the heroine from the women in Collins own life.

The Book of the KIng was an OK book. Although I thought it was to predictable, the similies and metaphors made up for it. It is about a boy named Owen who has no dream but finds one because of a magical book. He uses the book to enter another world to defeat an enemy that threatens his world. I think that the author does a fantastic job on when to start and end a chapter, but the ending is a bit of a letdown because I thought he could have told us a little more about the other world and what goes on in it. The descriptions of the other world only takes up about 20 pages out of the 273. The book also has weak action seens that I cant picture any of the action that goes on. Overall it is an OK read that anyone who likes the thought of another world would enjoy.

This was an interesting read....while the story as a whole was good I really enjoyed the short chapters on the interactions of the Gods/Goddesses from the two worlds.... and their plotting.... definitely going to read the second one cause I just have to know what exactly Skye and Gaia have sent to their daughters.... I loved this from the Epilogue "Your mission, should you choose to accept it...." Skye intoned in a solemn tone, belied by the twinkle in his eye. "Is to confound, harass, and generally annoy the enemy to the point that they are gibbering monkeys"

Spiteful perhaps, but also hilarious.

Though this book is listed as being a story of the Count Saint-Germain, that is inaccurate; he appears in this story only by way of letters between himself and the real protagonist, the love of his life, Madelaine. It's a decent book, and the story of Madelaine's affair with an officer in the Confederate Army has its share of 'oh, no; now what are they going to do?' moments, but it isn't on the level of Yarbro's Saint-Germain novels. I don't know why, but her novels about the female vampires in Saint-Germain's life are just not as good as those about Saint-Germain himself.

It was really good but the rest of the series was a flop.
A really cute/funny book that sort of reminded me of Swim the Fly Swim the Fly and seemed like the big brother of Diary of a Wimpy Kid too. It was a cute story - boy in grade 9 starts a new school and falls for a girl. He starts a band to win her over, of course and hilarity ensues. Recommended to middle school boys, though I think girls will like it too - I did!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! It's about a lumberjack who needs a wife in order to hold onto his land. The lady whose passage he paid was told she was to be a cook, not a wife! She has no wish to marry for reasons of her own. To pay back her debt, she agrees to cook for him and his workers. The author does a wonderful job of painting pictures with words. I felt like I was actually there in Joe Denton's house in Seattle. And the love story was sweet and compelling. Great read!
This was a really quick one-sitting read. Kind of predictable, but a cute read for anyone who loves to bake. None of the characters were really lovable.

I recently found this slim book of poetry among my college debris; thought it was so funny back then... poignant too. It tells the story of this Filipino named Ang Tunay Na Lalaki who was kind of a bigshot c-list celebrity back in Manila but after moving to NYC is faceless, emasculated. All the poems, bearing titles such as "Ang Tunay Na Lalaki Explores the Chatrooms on AOL" and "Ang Tunay Na Lalaki Does His Laundry," are quirky and fresh.
