I liked this one. Not as much as the His Dark Materials stuff (which I'm using this sequence to get over), but things are warming up nicely, and I'm excited for the rest of the books. Plus, I'm a sucker for anything that has to do with Arthurian legends.

Just finished this one. It presents and interesting alternate future where the paranormals and humans have just survived a pretty intense war. The characters are all interesting and well developed. I especially enjoyed Hunt, you know I love my werewolves. This was a very original story with a little romance thrown in.

Now I want to go back and take away stars from the other books I read to make this book's 5 stars really mean something. This might be the most incredible book I have ever read. There are so many things going on, elements of love, family relationships, motherhood, loss, independence, politics, war, violence, history, forgiveness, sacrifice... I am so disappointed that the author had to cancel his visit to Santa Cruz so I did not get to hear him speak, but I am being selfish in that aspect - he had more pressing serious issues to deal with than touring California.

for the longest time i dreaded this book and avoided actively. even though i was often confused much of the time and i had passages of it to understand, the use of language is wonderful. i love how it interweaves multiple story lines together. first read march 1st 2007. Edit: Round two! Reading it again for a second time while reading the Odyssey at the same time. This will be interesting. Edit 2: Finished again, for a second time. The paper I am having to write to go with this is driving me nuts, but the reading of this was a stylistic treat. I still recommend it if you have the time and patience for it. (4/09)

I felt like this was a rather disappointing debut novel. The pacing was very odd and it felt like Lahiri was TELLING me a story instead of letting me read it myself. That being said, I find her writing to be incredibly beautiful and am unable to give it a bad review.
