As hostilities flare between Catholic and Huguenot, Cardinal Richelieu relentlessly pursues the favors of Queen Anne. The story tells the saga of two brothers, Arsene de Richepin and Monsieur de Rechepin, personal secretary of Cardinal Richelieu. They represent two opposite worlds which never will meet each other. The author has a similar style as Dumas in telling some historical facts, the pre-revolutionary ideas of Paul de Vitry and the high price he payed for this, the dramatic siege of La Rochelle by the french and english people.
Silly, enjoyable pirate tale.
I like the twist on magick this book takes. The wild magick theory intrigued me greatly, as well as the unique world. Good trilogy.

Stella Hardesty is not your typical widow. First off, her husband was an abuser who regularly beat her. Second, Stella killed her husband with a wrench one day when she couldn't take his fists on her face anymore. She has never been tried for that murder. Third, since her husbands death, Stella has had a side business of helping battered women deal with their abusive partners. And by deal, we don't mean escape. No, Stella has little chats with the husbands, chats involving kidnapping and violence. Some of the men shape up. Some ship out, never to be seen again. It is those latter that have lead to the rumours that she kills them. Her latest client, Chrissy has a different problem, her abusive ex, Roy Dean has disappeared and so has Chrissy'a 18 month-old son, Tucker. Now Stella has to find the boy before it's too late, while dodging the inquiring of the local sherrif, who seems to know that something is up. A very good revenge fantasy/mystery, with just enough grit to make it interesting.
Holding true to the pattern, I love the last book of the series the best. Though here its hardly surprising since SO MUCH happened in this book compared to the others. These books are enjoyable, engaging and beautiful; with fascinating characters. Definitely one to buy and read with my future kids. I just don't like the constant off putting feeling from all the betraying characters. I was grateful that the one I liked this time turned out to be good.

This was the finale to the Elite Ops series and Jordan and Tehya's story. I really liked this one for the burning sexual tension between the two and amazingly hot scenes. Tehya's past is about to catch up with her. Jordan and the entire Elite Ops team comes to her rescue. This is really how a finale book should be written, with multiple appearances by all the characters we've read about as well as Jordan's father. The suspense story wasn't all that suspenseful, but I loved the couple so much I didn't really care.

I have read most all of these books in the First North American series and loved them all. Very interesting. Makes you think on how times were way back then. Great reads all of them. Read them as they came out in the 1980's.
The story of the ultimate survivor. You won't believe what a human is capable of suriving until you finish it. A must read for ocean lovers.

When I read _Fearless_, I kept waiting for a fearless character to show up, or for Digory to transform from a boy pretty much scared out of his wits to an amazingly fearless kid. That never happened! What I now realize is that this book is all about facing your fears, and doing things in spite of your fear. Digory does grow up in this book, faces his fears, and finds a new life. It is an inspiring story of life in early 1700s England.
