This book made me depressed about the planet.
I couldn't relate to this book; I am a girl living in a land locked state who can't swim (let alone hold her breath for two minutes) and never wants to try surfing. However, I really liked this book. The author's writing style was unique and thoughtful. I recommend it.

kisah hidup yang mengagumkan. meskipun seorang kinanthi mendapatkan begitu banyak pengalaman hidup yang buruk, namun ia tetap teguh dan tabah menjalani hidup. samapai akhirnya ia menjadi seorang yang dihormati, dan mengakui cinta sejati nya sejak kecil... keren...!
You will emerge from this one with a totally new perspective on the sea. Incredibly fascinating - it's not just a novel. For all intents and purposes a true story of the men who drowned in this storm. Full of gripping descriptions about what it's like to drown, how the Navy Seals become Navy Seals, etc.

I don't know how I have taught as long as I have without having read this book. Sometimes there are books that are so popular and ubiquitously taught, that I just choose to overlook them. Reading as an adult, I would give this book high marks, but it has been my students' reactions that have prompted me to award five stars to this short little book about the German occupation of Denmark. Yesterday was Friday and we still have three more chapters to read together. At the end of the read aloud, I cruelly ripped the books out of kids' hands. One child ran into the bathroom and locked herself in the stall so that she could finish. Another child went into a another classroom's library to find a copy.

Set in an exclusive prep school during World War II, this leisurely novel explores the relationship between two adolescent boys. Cast as roommates, Gene -- the obedient intellectual narrator -- and Phineas ("Finney") -- the fearless embracer of carpe diem -- develop a close friendship that is tested in various ways after an accident occurs. In the aftermath, Gene is steeped in a sense of guilt that causes him to develop an unflattering theory about Finney, one that he revises several times before arriving at a settled and more generous interpretation in the book's closing pages. Knowles' story is OK, but for a much more compelling encounter with life at a boarding school I would opt for watching a rerun of Dead Poets Society.

Some people don't necessarily like that the book is all just letters, but that is what made the book so enjoyable for me. At first it was a little confusing but it only took about 30 pages and I was hooked. This book made me laugh out loud (as well as cry) and not many books do that for me. I would definitely recommend it.

Gladwell does a masterful job at describing in a logical way why some excel at life/business and others don't have the same opportunity. There is some humanism in the book, but I think overall it is an intriguing read, especially for educators.
