This is a story about the Hobbit/Burglar Bilboa Baggins. It's a lovely adventure story filled with danger and possible fatalities around every corner. Gandalf has asked Bilbo to come with him on a quest to get back something belonging to the dwarfs, he is not really interested as he does like his homely routine and well he just might miss his second breakfast if he is out wandering about who knows where .So after a lot of soul searching he goes off with Gandalf and the adventure begins. One things for sure about this story, there is a great bunch of characters and the descriptions of the imaginary places are very well explained. It is a real joy to read and wets the appetite for the fellowship of the ring, the story that carries on from this one

I have heard so much about this series I had to give it a try. I have to say I was a little intimidated by the size of the book. But I loved it! It was worth every page. Can't wait to continue the series.

All I remember is hating every single wretched work of fiction I read in my 10th grade honors English class.

This is a cute little book. The story makes me think it should be a pocket sized book. I didn't realized how young the audience for this book is supposed to be. As far as books for preteens go this is a very safe, cool book. The Darwinian animals and the Steampunk stuff is mildly exciting, and the heros are probably relatable. The setting is what really interested me though. It's set during a WWI where the Austrians and the Germans had steampunk machines (isn't it more dieselpunk?) and the other side (I don't want to list countries) had genetically engineered living technology. It's pretty fun. Also one of the main characters is a fictional son of Franz Ferdinand.

Around 1985 I had to stop reading John Irving. I had read everything of his that I could get my hands on and had begun to live within his books. I resented my life when it tried to edge in. I left John Irving alone for many years, but when I returned, I did not like his newer work which read to me as if he had only the movie rights in mind. He remains though, one of my favorite authors, pre Widow for One Year.

I cannot stress enough how important I think this book is for every woman to read. It's well-written and captivating, but beyond that, it's practical and possibly life saving! De Becker urges people to listen to their instincts and not ignore signs of impending danger. When I first read this book, I was being made to feel extremely uncomfortable by the man who had installed the window gate in my apartment. At first I thought I was just being too sensitive and was reluctant to be mean to the man. But then De Becker's book outlined the characteristics of someone who is a potential stalker and could eventually cause you harm, and this guy fit every single thing on the list. The book helped me to see the signs and get myself out of a situation that could have only gotten worse. As far as I'm concerned, this is a must-read.

This book, published in 1980, is divided into three sections. The first section is Harrison talking to Derek Taylor about different times in his life. It is brief. I was hoping to learn more about Harrison's early and post-Beatles life than I did. I also wanted to hear more about his take on the Beatles mania era. I did get a sense of what he is like, but I just wanted more. The second section is just photographs. The third is the song section in which Harrison describes how/when he wrote many of his songs. I liked this section--I wish every major songwriter did it, but I didn't read every single entry, only the ones in which I was familiar with the song. Overall, this was an OK endeavor by the Quiet Beatle.

I am in no way ashamed of the fact that I love reading Harry Potter books like I love my parents - the act fills my heart with joy. This book's not as good as Order of the Phoenix - but it did make me cry - an honor it shares with Steinbeck's of Mice and Men

A great bit of advice from a great source. I learned a few lessons from this writing.
