I was slightly disappointed with 'The Iron Jackal', it didn't seem to really fit in with 'Retribution Falls' and 'Black Lung Captain' I was also slightly disappointed with the basic plot in some ways, it was a bit 'Pirates of the Caribbean' with (without giving too much of the plot away) the black spot on Frey's hand so he can be tracked down by a monster. It just seemed like a story taken from elsewhere and put in the 'Ketty Jay' universe. The book also seemed to depart from the more steampunk genre later on too, when a huge mechanical creature starts attacking the place where Frey is. It just reminded me of the giant robot from Transformers 2 and a bit War of the Worlds. There's not really a great deal more to say about the book, except that it goes back and revisits bits from the first two books, and gives more history to them, the finale of the book is set in a place that was, in a way, vital to the story of Jez, who was, disappointingly, under used in the latter half of the book as she is in a coma of sorts. Perhaps the thing that disappointed me most of all though, was the cover, as it just seems like the books are heading off in a more purely sci-fi universe and further away from the steampunk universe of old. A new person joins the crew (Having kicked Frey in the face in the first two chapters) and the book goes on with the tradition of explaining about the crews previous life, and we get to find out more about Silo in 'The Iron Jackal' which completes knowing the backstory of all the crew. At times, this felt like a swansong for the Ketty Jay books, hopefully it's not. I can see there is still far more left in these books, but hopefully they will go back to the feeling of the first books as this, to me, just didn't really feel like a Ketty Jay book in places.
A complicated plot that was built in a world similar enough to our own to be believable but with dynamics and complexities unique enough to have the reader enchanted with the fantasy. This erotic and multilayered story will have you laughing, tearing up and fascinated all in one plot. Great story, and I will be looking for more of this author. Augusten Burroughs is one of my favorites. An amazing book -- I couldn't put it down. But even better was his later memoir, Dry....

This book is challenging for anyone who believes they understand who is "in" and who is "out" of God's grace. This is also a great book for anyone who has entertained the idea they they could only be (or will remain) "outside" of that grace.

I really liked it. I had a difficult time with it at first and felt that it was going nowhere and then picked it up again and went nonstop. I also found reviews in the Saturday Review and the NYT. There is something hard for me to define that attracts me to Taylor's books. I almost always feel that there are redeeming features to every one of her characters if only I get to know them well enough. That aspect of her skill makes them more true to life for me. I loved the reconnection of Vesey and Harriet and found their relationship heartbreaking to read about. Taylor's ability to describe very mundane objects and situations casts a new light on things and situations that one normally would take for granted. She's never effusive.
The book killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan is a big book of mysteries and adventure. A couple of students including one of Mr. Griffins favorites want to play there mean language arts teacher a prank. The students did not hope for the result they got. The students ONLY wanted to scare him... I love this book and recommend it to people that like mysteries.

Even thought the main character was a little flat, and much of the dialog was uninspired, especially the lack of dialect, I thought this book was an excellent choice for my teenage students. The author does not shy away from tough issues like teen pregnancy, abortion, father/daughter relationships, and teenage sexuality. It is also inspiring to have an array of highly intelligent African American main characters who fit the profil of so many of my students.

this book was amazing. i can't believe i didn't add it before. this book is charming, cute and adorable. it is so interesting to see what happens. this book i would recommend to any child and parent who's willing and who likes to see how life as a rat or mouse is really like.
这是一个很棒的故事,我认为这就是斯蒂芬·金所追求的。 他将指环王与古老的克林特·伊斯特伍德(Clint Eastwood)西部电影结合在一起,制作出一本充满动感的书。 我爱它。

Wow, what an unbelievable story. I didn't like this as much as I liked Seabiscuit, but I still really liked it and it is definitely worth reading.
