if you have never read any of ms. mina's work, start here... the story line blows everything else out of the water. the narrative, the characters, and the pace combine into an the car wreck you can see unfolding but can do nothing to prevent. truly excellent writing.

Liked it. Will definitely read it when I am at a different point in my life, I think it will have more of an impact then.

Amazing. Hilarious. David Sedaris is one of the only writers who makes me laugh out loud while reading his books.

Oryx and Crake are two characters in this glimpse into a genetically dominated future - they create a race of people who are bred to rid the human race of all our faults. But the experiment goes horribly wrong and Jimmy, Crake's best friend and Oryx's devoted lover, is left alone with this population of complete innocents. Once again, I love Atwood, and this is up with Handmaid's Tale for me, as far as her work goes. I love her wordplay, and the way she takes a concept and runs with it until its horrifying, but oh-so-logical, conclusion.

Really wonderful story. I highly recommend it to anyone.
As I understand it, this book was written with the intent that the utopia described was something to strive for, an ideal world we should seek. One that could come to pass (someday). However I read it assuming that it was written as a parody, a statement about how such a thing could never come to be - that such a utopia is even undesirable. Such a world as that described lives only in the ridiculous fantasies of those I recommended PihKal to.

The author means well, and most of the principles are good: but there are some few contradictions where he fails to fully realize the definition of a free people, and goes back on his support for natural law and property rights and espouses the tyranny of a majority: however on the whole it the book is a good compendium of the American founder's ideals in a modern context.

A sad story about the plight of children in India and their horrific journey into the sex trade business.
It was interesting to read how a westerner survives using traditional trading methods and market places.
