I only read, "The Jungle Book" and I truly enjoyed it. He did a great job of capturing the ferocity of the animals along with their nobler emotions. I was too dumb to figure out all his politics, thus I enjoyed the story part. I read a few of his fables as well and there were purty good.

I just like Saul Bellow better.
A fast read, but not an overly illuminating or thought provoking book. I imagine Chrichton spent a couple weeks on research, and then blew through the writing of it in a weekend. That said, it does call Ulysses to mind as either an influence, or as homage to it. Now, having realized that it was taken from his hard drive after his death, it makes more sense. I'm not sure it was truly finished, or even meant for publishing.

Wow, this is one of the longest, best, most enjoyable books I have read in some time. The plot is so intricate, the charaters well developed. I love love love this book!
This was a sobering but fascinating read of what life is like for women in Saudi Arabia.

Loved this book of the May witch series but only this one. The rest started to annoy me.
Brilliant!

To me, Alan Bradley's Flavia de Luce books keep getting better and better, and if it's possible, even more charming. There's something about Flavia that just tickles me. In this Bradley offering, the 4th in the Flavia series, we find Ms. de Luce conjuring up a way to trap old St. Nick himself. Of course, you know it includes chemistry and chemicals. And of course, of you're a de Luce devotee you also know that this is a side story to . . . MURDER! When a guest in the de Luce household is murdered, Flavia simply MUST pursue the solution to this whodunit. If it isn't too much of a spoiler, I do believe that in doing so Flavia come closer to being a short-lived detective than in the other three sleuthing episodes. It was very fun to read this during the holidays--a nice touch--but in truth it would be a delight any time.
Funny at times, close to home with the baby, the grad school, the teaching while in grad school with a baby, and all that. But also a bit annoying with the constant bestybestybest friend talk, and a tad unrealistic with all the best friending they do and sunday dinners they have while supposedly teaching and writing, much less raising a baby. But fun to read, and a nice pass of the time. I loved that it was set in Seattle. Good. Fine. The crisis, the center of the story, scared me to death because it was about a very sick baby. That hit me like a brick to the stomach out of nowhere. All ended up fine. But books with sick babies should come with a disclaimer on the back so new mommies don't read them unknowingly. Look at the cover! I thought it was going to be all sunshine and roses. It was more than a little bit not sunny at all. I admit I skimmed the last three pages or so because they felt lame and too tidy. There were also annoying typos in this book 2/3 of the way in, which makes me think not only the editor, but the author was tired of her story at this point too. I think I'd like this book more if I were 23 instead of 33.
I read this merely for research into Quinces, so for that it was ok. It's just not my type of reading in general, so I skipped over a lot.
