This had the potential to be a really good book, but the author lost opportunity after opportunity to create any sort of suspense for the reader. It was like she just spit it out on the page. With just breaking the text into smaller chapters (a la Margaret Peterson Haddix) she could have made it much more of a page-turner.

Start date approximate. Not bad, but not great.

I agree with Steinbeck when he says that cheap made books are the best. For under 15 Euros i had the privilege to be entertained and stimulated by the Sprawl Trilogy. Mona Lisa Overdrive (still bother`s me this title) is the final (?) of a three book series known as the Sprawl Trilogy. In this final volume the reader has much to win by having read the previous books. Everything and everyone get`s brought back whether they are alive or dead, physical or immaterial. It`s a Sci Fi book by nature but if we take into account the time line of when it was written and today`s advancements in science and corporate behaviour we get a chill in the back of our heads. No spoilers here, although the future portrayed by Gibson is cold, cynical and profit centred, the emptiness that get`s generated by such state of affairs gets soothed by the notion that humanity is present in every single person and entity. Love shall set you free.

Totally lightweight, totally fun. The mystery's not much, but the characters and writing are quite entertaining. I love how sullen and unredeemable Isabel is.

Fire of my life, light of my loins. Get sucked in to the hypnotic music of Nabokov and soon you'll forget what it is you're reading about..... almost.

It's fun to play name-that-Greek-myth as you make your way through this tragicomic tale of gods, monsters, and teenage angst. Mount Olympus has moved to New York City, since that's now the center of Western civilization.(?) Dionysius is a bored camp counselor, Ares is a motorcycle-riding thug with anger issues, and Medusa runs a business selling garden statuary. Meanwhile, the gods are still siring children with mortals, and their kids' warring human/divine natures manifest in dyslexia and ADHD. (The protagonist, Percy Jackson, has been expelled from every school he's attended.) It's a fun and easy read, if a bit superficial and juvenile in spots--but it is YA fiction, after all. Entertaining.

I read this book while on holiday in Brazil a couple of weeks ago. So good... The story begins in Brazil... the the setting changes to Canada. A little girl grows up, becomes a woman... and continues always to learn. Made me think about my life.
