"Well, Indian-heads- well, they come from the Indians. They're real strong magic, they make you have good luck. Not like fried chicken when you're not lookin' for it, but things like long life 'n' good health, 'n' passin' six-weeks tests... these are real valuable to somebody. I'm gonna put em in my trunk." Great quote about happiness.

Joan works through many of the issues that I seem be trying to work through too. She was able to take a year and live on her own in a small cottage near the Atlantic Ocean in Cape Cod. Having refused to move with her husband of many years to his new job, she takes this break. Being that I am taking a break....a more permanent break....from my marriage, I found it an interesting read. How is it that we women find ourselves questioning everything as we see our children become adults and we face a person we knew before children but not so much after they leave.....

Similar to Catcher in the Rye except more plot-driven, with a different agenda, and better.

Lots of interesting information and insights into our history. Coontz tends to write about everything so sometimes it seems the information doesn't mesh or is too much, but overall very insightful. The major drawback is that this was written in 1992. Would love to see the updates. But overall a good history of families and the problems with families and our history.

A relative who rarely reads fiction recommended this author, so I knew he had to be good. I'll definitely read him again. Robbins manages to skewer just about every facet of American society all while developing a colorful cast of characters who manage to become compelling in spite of being beyond cartoonish. It's one of those books that makes you wonder what the author was smoking, so you have to be in the mood for the absurd when you read it. If you're never in that mood, beware, because, as Robbins says, "Those who shun the whimsy of things will experience rigor mortis before death."
Read this one EVERY night...Brayden is my wild thing!

Most biased piece nonfiction I've read to date, but I was curious about what happened beginning the month after I left the Valley.
This was excellent for business and even organizational developement, despite his occasional insertions regarding his personal on faith. I actually found a lot of parallels between this book and my life in ministry. Overall, I guess I was pretty shocked in a good way. Very helpful!
One of the best mysteries I have read in a long time. Very reminiscent of Kate Atkinson in that the mystery is secondary to the characters. I could not put this book down.
This sounds really good. Sarah my favorite author
