I experienced the Graphic Audio of this book, the first thing I should point is that it took me a while to get used to the characters name, Dante Valentine seemed rather forced, nonetheless I enjoyed the universe the story takes place in, the cast is fairly talented and I enjoyed the story overall, will definitely pick up the next book in the series.

Loved the background but the writing is horrible. I guess I shouldn't have expected it to be Nathaniel Hawthorne.

I just ran through the points. The chosen topics are good but the elaboration needs to be polished.

"You can’t conceive, my child, nor can I or anyone the ... appalling ... strangeness of the mercy of God." - Priest in BRIGHTON ROCK. This was the hardest of Greene's "Catholic novels" to get through. Pinkie is psychotic and there is little to like in him. There is no hero in Brighton Rock, a city that is as dank and soiled as its criminals. The only thing that seems to bind Pinkie and Rose, outside of their secret, is their pride in being "Roman." This was not my favorite Greene novel, but I'm glad to have read it.
has a good poem in it called "the sea"

I think this is one of the best Indian novels published in the last 15 years, perhaps second only to The God of Small Things (caveat: I haven't read The Inheritance of Loss). [I'm using "Indian" broadly, to refer to India and the Indian diaspora.] It's not perfect -- there were times when I felt it rambled, and I generally like rambling but some of this irritated me because it was too expository, too much (I think) a concession to people who know nothing about India. But this book is so honest and deep and true that even thinking about it now, in the midst of the current spate of chicklitty "I RAN AWAY FROM MY ARRANGED MARRIAGE AND THEN WE ATE A LOT OF MANGOES AND IT WAS VERY SENSUAL" Indian novels is like a breath of fresh air. It's Dickensian in its scope and pathos. So much modern American fiction shies away from emotion; so much modern Indian fiction brims with Bollywood sentimentality of the nastiest kind. I love this book for doing neither.

I really enjoyed this book and stayed up later than I had intended a few nights because I was liking it so much. It is the story of how 4 women's lives intersect as they all are involved in the creation of a beautiful little girl; one as the egg donor, one as the surrogate, one as the mom to be, and one as the daughter of the mom to be. It was great how each chapter was focused on one of the women's lives/perspectives and how the story of how they would all come to be connected seamlessly came together. It was an interesting perspective on surrogacy and made me think about it all from a different angle. There was quite a twist near the end of the book I was not expecting and it definitely kept me reading. I would recommend this book for sure even though I thought it wrapped up a bit too quickly for my taste.

I thought that this was a very good story. Tom Franklin has an interesting way of introducing characters. He'll introduce them by name, and won't explain who they are for another chapter or two. Great characters, great story. Prepare yourself for a sad beginning. I really felt for the main characters.
