J.M. Coetzee deservedly was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 2003. This story is so raw and the writing is so elegant.

** spoiler alert ** This book brought me back to college as I went to college in Montana and I enjoyed that that was part of the setting. I did find the book to be highly predictable once the postcards started showing up but than that made me want to read to find out what had happened. I did like how it was a friendship between two males as you don't see that too often. I did think the stroy was slow to get started.

Cute book. There are little love notes and its cute how the main boy likes the main character and it just a sweet story with a bit of loss and a bit of love.
This book is hard to rate b/c its 9 stories are of uneven quality. The two best stories and my two favorites are the bookends (the first and last chapters). "Interpreter of Maladies" and "Sexy" are good, not great. The remaining stories did not impress me. For example, while I can cognitively regsiter the many artistic details of "Mrs. Sen's" (e.g., the title points to the fact that the center of focus is a place rather than a person per se; Mrs. Sen's difficult transition in America parallels and possibly foreshadows Eliot's own transition to adulthood [see the faintly dark allusion on p.118, last sentence]; etc.), the story just doesn't register emotionally with me. It doesn't grip me. It is competent, but just competent.

Such a hard book to read! Mostly I was just *mad* for the entire book except the very end. I would definitely recommend it, especially because it's been challenged.
An amazing story: this is the second book of Kim Dare i've read and i'm hooked. Matt is "beautiful", i can't say otherwise and Flynn, well i fell in love. I had a great time reading this story.
Okay. Two important things to remember before starting this book, or even while reading it. 1. It is a fiction novel. 2. However, there are some facts within it. That being said, if you are very religious, by way of christianity, particularly catholic, you possibly may not enjoy this book. But I hope that everyone can appreciate it as it's intended to be: a great escape.
One of my favourite books that I have ever read, this book encapsulates what I consider to be literary perfection. Atwood is always a great writer, but this book really got to me for some reason, and conveyed a deep sadness and insight into life that I had hitherto experienced from a piece of literature. I highly recommend this novel, and would encourage readers to continue past the first 100 pages, which seem confusing and strange, but actually just add to the awesomeness that happens later on. Contemporary literary genius summed up into what is "The Blind Assassin".

elmore leonard is like robert b. parker -- heavy on dialogue, short on what leonard terms "hoop-te-doodle". nice, tight book, well written. quick read, entertaining.

I so enjoyed this book! Much moreso than the 2nd book in the series, and I even liked the previous hero (Julian) better in this book because it showcased his yummy protective nature. That said, I fell in love with this book's hero, Marc/Hunt, in the opening scene, and stayed in love with him throughout the story. Loved all the emotion and action the author packed into the story, and though I'd read criticisms from other readers about a certain scene involving...medication, I had no problem with it at all. For me the author portrayed the decision in such a way that I totally believed and understood why the heroine chose the course of action she did. Hunt is definitely one of my all time favorite heroes. A very worthwhile read!
