Absolutely recommended and one of the life changing books I've read in my life. Thank God for forgiveness...I would be dead if I had not learnt to apply it by choice, as it is best to do for our own sakes! I've learnt to forgive the unforgivable and go on to have an abundant peaceful and joyful life. Heave IS here on earth and we hold the keys inside of us by using our volition - the gift of choice. :) Be blessed...

I finished it! Hurray. I had to power through about 100 pages of annoyingingly complex and nearly incomprehensible made-up terminology, where Mieville world builds this futuristic colony on a far off planet. But I made it to where there was finally enough action to keep me reading happily. More or less happily. The book is essentially about linguistics. And dissidence, potential societal collapse, and aliens. It's kinda like reading Ursula Le Guin, if Le Guin decided to write way more obscurely. The relationships in the book are sort of sketched, and the world building is also kind of sketched, in a really intricate conceptual way. Lots of detail, not a lot of overall understanding, which I guess is not my favorite thing. Yet the concepts are interesting. Basically it was about an emigrant from a civilized border planet who goes back home to visit Embassytown after having made it out and became some sort of star pilot/navigator. Except Mieville calls it being an immerser, and the immerse is sort of like an oceanic, beyond time and place, other-than-current-universe place. Who knows. Anyway, Avice, our protagonist, goes back home for a visit with her new husband, as a kind of gift to him. He is a mostly-schooled linguist who is fascinated by the Hosts, or Ariekei, an unusual alien race living on that planet (because it's theirs) who have a totally unique language. They are a sophisticated race, with highly advanced bioengineering techniques, and the humans on Embassytown have been living peacefully with them for generations, communicating through a few special human Ambassadors, as the Hosts can't understand anyone else. Avice and her husband Scile stick around for the arrival of a new Ambassador, sent by the empire world, and everything goes to hell.

I picked up this book immediately after finishing book 2 in the Harper Connelly series and, as other reviewers here promised (and thank you!), this is a terrific read - much better in many ways than Grave Surprise. A bit of time has passed since the events in the previous novel and the relationship between Harper and Tolliver is fraught with tension. This is elevated to new heights when they're called to another small town to help with the investigation into the disappearance of a number of boys aged 14-18. What Harper uncovers is not only a serial killer like none anyone in the criminal teams has ever encountered, but she has brought the authorities to his killing fields and thus spoiled his sick games and in doing so attracted his attention.... This is a darker, faster-paced book than the previous two that not only allows Harper the space to grow and demonstrate the backbone she does have (and not only Tolliver), but also enables us to finally see why she is so attractive to her manager and the other men who drift in and out of her orbit. The relationship between Harper and Tolliver is beautifully developed and allows us to invest deeply in both these fabulous characters. Old characters reappear with sad and rewarding results. As usual, the townsfolk are well drawn and add frission to an already great read. Looking forward to the final book in what's turning out to be a fantastic series.

Intensely honest way of seeing how human nature is often unstoppable even when challenged by society or environment. This book made me cry at the end.

This reviewer was expecting to read another one of those bland stories you find yourself skimming threw pages. To my surprise I found Until Emie to be different. The fast pace action and uncontrollable animalistic lust between the two main characters Emie and Cut kept my attention from start to finish. I wish I had a male counter-part that set my sheets on fire like Cut. For those erotica action alpha male lovers this book is for you! While I loved Breakfast at Tiffany's, and will probably love it even more the next time I read it (this is going to be one of those books you end up having a relationship with), the story of this collection that touched me the most while reading it was The Diamond Guitar. However, it was the last story that made me cry: the ending of A Christmas Memory was seen coming, but it conducted itself with such perfect manners and such a light touch that, helped undoubtedly by the fact that I've only recently said goodbye to my grandparents, it made my cry. Not exactly what you want to be doing in the staff room in lunch time, but well. I suppose these things can't be helped.
A modern classic, as far as I'm concerned.
I finally finished this book. I read it here and there, but never felt compelled to sit and finish more than a page or so at a time. It's not a memorable book. I liked it okay, but it just follows a group of kids through a summer with some very short stories interspersed between the "action." It's a sort of memoir from a male character, reflecting back on that summer. As much as I love L. M. Montgomery, this book was the first I wouldn't have minded missing out on.
