I found this book to be very interesting and moving. It was nice to read a book that shows how a person ("Cool Beth") can live on their own and have the same things that so called "normal" people can. I appreciated that Beth knew right from wrong and is not afraid to express that to the world around her. We can all learn from that. The annoyance that Rachel feels at times for Beth is written with such truth. This will not be enjoyed by all, but all can learn from it.

I've nannied and babysat and and off for half my life now, so a book about nannies has to go on my reading list. And for the most part, I liked ND and the struggles one has as someone who cares for OPK (other people's kids) to do right by the kids when their parents are idiots. Since she nannies for extremely rich people, I didn't necessarily share experiences but I have worked for parents who I thought did pretty bad jobs of raising their kids, and when you love kids that makes you sad. The ending was ok. I don't know, I guess I enjoyed it but didn't find it very satisfying, which is how things are when you're a nanny in a bad situation. You just hope to extract yourself. But the bad memories linger... Anyway, a big step up from DEVIL WEARS PRADA and other mindless "OMG, I'm the girl next door working for big evil rich people!" books that were (are?) so popular.
blood-boiler.

I love candy. I was surprised by the amount of personal details that the author included about his life, and it ended up being a memoir/research about candy combined. The saddest thing about this book is that many of the candies he researches are made by such small companies that I can't buy them where I live. This book made me want to never buy big-name candy again.
Absolutely fantastic !

Excellent sci-fi/cyber story. Guns, drugs, sex, violence, metaverse (think the matrix...sorta), and crazy religious mumbo jumbo. Highly recommended!

I understand all the reasons people didn't like this book. The protagonist was pretty flawless, and I have no idea how she lived the way she did without any source of income but her flitting around with art. The romance, though done tantalizingly with the help of the audiobook reader (who first struck me as ridiculous because of her distracting affected Southern accent), was pretty unrealistic and idealized. I'd read The Secret Life of Bees before and had a taste of the author's pseudo magical realism, but this didn't really work. However, the themes of forgiveness, love as a choice and not an overwhelming feeling, and ... well, the last one would be a spoiler alert - were enough to bring it from two stars to three.

The only reason I quit reading this one is because it was due back at the library and was on hold, so I couldn't renew it. I learned so much from the 3 chapters I did read, and will definitely finish it in the future.
