Entertaining and interesting for the geologist and the non-scientist alike. This book describes the amazing floods that shaped the landscape of the Inland Northwest. David Alt does an excellent job of describing what a flood of that proportion would have looked and sounded like. Alt has also contributed to a number of books in the Roadside Geology series.

Fast and funny. A satisfying literary snack.

It drew me in when Alices friend sara mysteriosly moved away, and then I was almost pushed away when Alice's father began dating. continuing on, the last Alice prequel was not my favorite, but it was good.

I have no idea why nobody reads barthes anymore in anthropology. He's prettier than Foucault, less obtuse than Levi-Strauss and more current than Benjamin. He basically invents cultural studies in this book.

I really liked it. It was one of those books that like eventually grew on me and it's not so much a plot or anything but the writer's style...it makes you feel so attached to the characters, and she's amazing with pathos. I started the book hating the main character but by the end found him to be endearing. Worth reading.

Amazing layout if you're a typesetting nerd. This book is deliciously creepy and I kinda don't like reading it when I'm home alone.

After reading Pride and Prejudice and Emma I was under the assumption that all of Jane Austen's works were light and fun. Sure, there are bits and pieces of internal struggle but in the end it is really not that heavy. This story, however, was much more somber than the others and considerably more mature. This book balances out the lighter works and is a must-read for any Austen lover.

Many parts of this book were 5 star brilliant, especially the factual reporting on the production of food in the U.S. (which was the majority of the book) and some of his philosophical musings. Pollan used his personal experiences with the various food chains chronicled and his quest to make a meal from each of them; these sections dragged the book down and diminished my reading experience. Still a very worthwhile book if you have any curiosity about where your food comes from.

Everyone MUST read this. (I wrote that just to make the deconstructionist mad.)

This book is so laugh-out-loud funny and cool. Who couldn't love Nick Hornby? And the movie was very cool itself with awesome music.
