I am torn with this book. I did like it however it had allot in it that was not needed. But it is worth trying to read the next one to see what happens.

Really enjoying reading Sherlock Holmes. Well written easy to read.
Initially, when I finished reading this book, I had planned on giving it 3 stars. But since I wait to enter my books on Goodreads until the end of the month, a few weeks have passed since I finished it, and when I saw it on my list, I thought: "What book is THAT?" I cannot in good conscience give 3 stars to a book that I can barely remember after 3 weeks. Walbert's book tells the story of 4 generations of women from the same family, the progenitor of which is a woman who starved herself to death for women's suffrage in the UK during WWI. I found myself liking the suffragette's granddaughter the most, whose story we don't get to see until she is already in her 70s. After the death of her adult son, she starts to see her life in a different light. I found myself really enjoying and identifying with her journey. I thought the best chapter in the whole book was the one during which she shared a cruise with her husband - this chapter was intense and melancholy, but so incredibly well written. Ultimately, I didn't feel like the 4 generations' stories meshed well together. They hardly seemed connected to one another at all. I also didn't understand the odd obsession with Florence Nightingale. And I guess I just don't really see the point of this book. It fell flat for me.

A light, summer fun read that will make us over 50 women laugh .
read in 2003 for Black Diamond book club. History is hard for me. I get very confused and can't keep the dates straight. But this book was just amazing.

I love this series. It is impossible to put them down once you start reading them.
I really liked this quirky odd book. A lot of the reviews comment on the depressing nature of this book. I did not see it that way. This is the story of a husband and wife (actually first cousins) who escape Nazi Germany and end up on the doorstep of a distant relative in London. I loved the unique writing style...very stilted and matter of fact. This is one of those books that while I liked it, I am not sure if others would. It seems like it is one of those books that you either love or hate.
Wow! Beautifully written and a painful story to tell, this true story begins with the author, from a passing taxi, seeing her mother rummaging through a dumpster on a New York street. She relates her difficult upbringing with honesty and suprising compassion. I was appalled throughout most of the book, most especially at the mother's revelation of the true extent of her inheritance. There is profuse profanity and some heartbreaking sexual descriptions, but overall this book tells an amazing story of family bonds and the strength of the individual.

This was my favorite of all on them. I don't know if that is just because it all came toghether or if it really was better.
Kindle freebie. Well for the most part I enjoyed reading it, but I had issues with the lack of propriety in A Proper Companion. The love interest is ummm very experienced so I wasn't wowed by his character. Sure he's handsome and rich, but a bit of a man slut. The kissing scenes are more groping scenes and I expected a regency romance to be more clean and well...romantic. It was okay for a fluff read.
