Never really grabbed me, and I did not find the payoff compelling.

Every time i rate a book bannned in China, i'll consider a 4 or 5 star on Douban.com. It the first time i rate a book on Goodread, i'll do the same thing. The Party do tells the truth of how the CPC governs China, especially the state economy. I'm quite impressed in the chapters describing the outlet of CPC in international entrepreneaus. Actually the logig, from my point of view, is that the CPC first deprive you of possessing wealth, then they create a society where you can only struggle for the breadline. Then you hardly have any time to care about democracy, freedom and humanrights.

Mrs. Hatch has a gift for capturing the essence of what goes on within the female (especially the eldest sister's) mind. Her mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters' frustrations made me scream into pillows, too. I was entirely swept away by the romance, especially the hero. I guarantee any seeker of a good, heart-pounding romance novel will not be disappointed in "The Stranger She Married."

In 1997, after many invitations, David Hare, a fifty-year-old British playwright, finally visited the fifty-year-old state of Israel while his play Amy's View was in rehearsal in Tel Aviv. During his visit, he traveled around the country, and his discussions with Jewish settlers encompassed the idealism, contradictions, and paranoia at the heart of modern Zionism in the wake of the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin. In the play that resulted-written to be performed by the author himself-Hare offers a meditation on this extraordinary trip to both Israel and the Palestinian territory, questioning his own values as searchingly as he examines the powerful beliefs of those he met.

This was a plot-driven book that was an interesting read, but too much of it was implausible to me. Friends in water aerobics class loved it. I read a few of W.E.B. Griffin's books before in his police series. I liked them but didn't finish the series. I keep looking for the same sarcastic humor of Brian Haig's books about the military attorney--which isn't fair, because it isn't part of W.E.B. Griffin's gifts as a writer.

I read this when I was studying abroad in Paris and was on a kick of reading books written by American expats about living in the city. Some of Gopnik's stories interested me more than others. Particularly dramatic and fun was the story about Parisians battle with a British restaurateur who was about to take over their local brasserie in the Latin Quarter. Gopnik's is a good book to read in order to get some idea of the French cultural battles against globalization/Americanization. I have to confess, I was less interested in the segements devoted to his family.

** spoiler alert ** As with any "first" book in a series, there are bumps and hiccups that go along with setting up the rest of the series. Thankfully, there's not much to set up for this series, as Sea Haven is a well established setting, with characters recongnizable from the Drake Sisters series. I'm still a little unsure where this series is going though. Are the "Sisters of the Heart" meant to hook up with the six Prakenskii brothers? I hope so, because I really like Ilya and Lev :) I love how the story starts at the same time Sea Storm is ending. Rikki is such a unique character for a romance book. I know very little about Autistic behavior, so this book was very enlightening. While she has a mild case, her struggles are very real. While Lev could have been a cookie cutter mold of Feehan's typical male-dominate characters, a nasty bump on the head & a case of amnesia tempered some of that alpha tendencies. I really enjoyed that he fought training and focused on new-found emotions to guide his actions. I loved the electrical palm synge between the two of them. I have a feeling that's a Prakenskii thing. The connection Rikki & Lev has is so sweet and amazing. I loved the build up of trust, had they jumped in bed together in the first 100 pages . . . it would have totally ruined the book for me. There wasn't as much "action" in this book. There were a couple of dramatic moments though. I'm hoping . . . if this turns out to be a Prakenskii brothers series . . . that there will be interaction between Lev & Ilya . . . and Jackson & Lev. That story arc really left me hanging!
