I really enjoyed this book... It wasn't super riveting but I thought the character development was very good. It was like a socialogical (is that a word?) study on the ways fear/war/illness can affect an entire community and the ways the ugly parts of people (and some good parts too) can be brought to the surface.

I loved this book and could not put it down! I had not read anything by Lisa Scottline before and now will definitely look to read others. The sytle of the story was similar to Jodi Picolt, but with the suspense and twists to the plot, it's more of a legal-thriller type novel than Picolt.

I love this book! The Tuohy's are such great people. I would reccomend this book over the novel The Blindside

This book is about a young couple who move to a town where the husband gets a job to restore the grounds of Elm Creek Manor. The lady who now resides there lived there a long time ago. She hires the wife to help her clean the place up so it can be put on the market to sell. In the meantime the girl asks to be taught how to quilt. The lady teaches her. In the end it is decided that the place should be kept and not sold. It will be turned into a quilters retreat and the lady who owns the Manor will remain in the home and her occupants will be the young couple who will help her to run the place. I really liked this book.
This is a fictional memoir based on Nothomb’s experiences as the child of a diplomat living in Tokyo, Peking, Paris and New York. The theme of hunger is used to detail her examination of identity. She is also afflicted with anorexia and dipsomania where she drinks copious amounts of water and gains strange delight where “getting drunk on water was my mystical happiness. I don’t know if my dipsomania was an illness of my body. I’m more inclined to think of it as the health of my soul: wasn’t it a physiological metaphor for my absolute need?” This book looks at her life from age 4 to 21 and an interesting one given the travelling and different cultures she experienced she thinks on a much deeper level than the rest of us. A very eccentric and mystical read and whether it is true or not I enjoyed it immensely.

I really loved this series. I love the writing style of Carrie. She is one of my fav's!! It is a little dark at times but SO FANTASTIC and the end was perfect! For me at least ;)
One of the most difficult things I've ever had to do as a reader is to give myself permission to abandon a book. As a child I would always force myself to finish a book once I had started it, no matter how badly I disliked it. Not so anymore. I have finally gotten to the point where I firmly believe, and I tell my students this all the time, there are too many goods books out there waiting to be read to spend your time finishing a book you just don't like. This book is one of those books. I have read 149 out of 372 pages and I'm just not enjoying it. I don't feel any draw, anything making me want to continue on. I am sure that there will be many people who will absolutely love this book, but as for me, I've decided to not spend anymore time with it.

This book is a great start to an epic fantasy series, it sets up and hints at many of the major plot lines featured in future books. it also establishes George R.R Martins complete disregard for your love of characters. GRRM has a great talent for world building, and goes into detail on the aesthetics of the world the story is set in. My favourite part of this book, and in fact the whole series are definitely the characters. GRRM is great at writing strong female characters, who strive to become something in a world and "time period" where women have little to no rights, the male characters are just as interesting. If you have any interest in medieval fantasy, this is the series you should be reading.
George Saunders has a great absurdist sensibility and an appreciation for the plight of the underdog. Well, not even the underdog -- the loser among losers. The guy who always gets the short end of the stick, and it isn't even a very long stick to begin with. Saunders takes this sad sack and makes us feel for him, laugh at and with him, and appreciate his pathos and (occasionally) his heroism. There are comic moments in the title story of this collection to rival Heller or Vonnegut.
