A marvelous epic of historical fiction about a family on a mission trip to the Belgian Congo in 1959. The story is narrated by the four daughters and wife of Nathan Price, an extremely evangelical tyrannical Baptist. The novel explores three decades in the life of this family, beginning with their time in Africa and continuing to explore all of their lives as a result of what happened there. I found it to be VERY slow moving at first, and had a hard time kicking myself into reading further, but I had faith and was rewarded with an engrossing second half. The book is so eloquently written and moved me to tears on several occasions. Adah was my favorite character. Her chapters always touched my heart.

Fast, fun read. Not a very 'deep' book, but it's well-paced, witty, and energetic from cover to cover. Adolescence, love, virtue, heroes, and villains. Nice!

This was really funny and enjoyable, even if a little silly at times. Got me laughing out loud on several occasions.

Not my favorite installment of the Vampire Chronicles. It wasn't bad, I just felt it lacked the luster of the previous three. After truely being dazzled by Queen of the Dammned and The Vampire Lestat, I was a bit dissapointed in this one. Maybe it was because as a human Lestat is weak and so unlike himself. I did enjoy some of his human interactions with characters like Gretchen and David, but this is defintely not going on my favorites list.

Thirteen-year-old Caroline Dorsey was devastated when her father and baby sister Rebecca died in a yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia. Unwilling to spend another summer in Philadelphia, Caroline's mother decided that she would take her two remaining children, Caroline and fourteen-year-old Charlie, and move to her father's Maryland plantation. But Charlie is determined to go to sea, and his mother doesn't have the will to refuse her son's greatest wish. Meanwhile, Caroline returns to boarding school in Philadelphia, where she receives a letter with news that Charlie has fallen off the deck of his ship and drowned. Caroline knows that can't be true. So she returns home, determined to discover the truth. This book is a good middle grade read full of mystery and adventure set against an interesting historical setting - Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. during the War of 1812.

Fun, clever, a little contrived at times but all in all an enjoyable afternoon's read!

I had some collection of his works as a kid/teen, read several of them. The ones (seems there was more than one) about live beings being walled in to structures especially bothered me. Haven't read all of this stories by any means, I think 3-5. Plus maybe one or two assigned in school at some point. And none of his poetry. Today, I Don't Have to read Poe! Yippee!

Disappointing but a one-off story. One or two neat twists in the plot but as I could not agree with the philosophy of the 'Arch-villain' then the conclusion was a real downer.

Finally, Andrew and Evie have found their mom. They now must foil the plot of The Company, an evil organization that's trying to take over the world. Peter Lerangis finishes up the Spy X series with a bang!
