This was very exciting. As much a biography of Pytheas as it is history. Reads very much like a travel diary. Nice details of Greek life and culture of the time giving us a picture as to why Pytheas might undertake this journey. I read this when it first came out.

I added this to my "want to read" pile after seeing it in a bookstore a while back. I thought it was going to be a little lighter and explore how the price of specific products is determined - how the manufacturer and store decide to charge $19.99 for this gadget or that shirt and not some other price. Instead, it's a much more philosophical book, exploring different areas in terms of costs and benefits. It was interesting, but somewhat slow going. I was particularly interested in the chapter about the price of faith, as I'd never thought about faith and religion in transactional terms before.

I looked this book because it is well-written and set in my husband's hometown of Isfahan.

Cole is a troubled kid, full of anger, faced with prison or going to a remote island in Alaska to live for one year alone. A great story of change and finding the will and desire to live.

Really enjoyed it. Easy summer read.
Oh dear, what to say about this book? I will start with one minor and one major quibble that I had with it. 1. American authors who want to set their books in England, including historical England really ought to get British editors to read their works before publication. There were quite a few Americanisms that slipped in and could have easily been resolved. Otherwise this book might have been set in New England at the same time period with much the same effect. I was surprised no one in the book mentioned the fact that there were no wolves in England by the 1900s. 2. The ending was terribly unsatisfying. The story built up to the 'Mysterious Howling' and the question of who set the Children up in the climactic scene, but do we find out? No! There is no resolution at all. It feels like there are five or six chapters missing. If the author didn't want to answer the mystery in book 1, then why name it in the title? Very frustrating. That aside, I gave this book four stars because of Miss Penelope Lumley. I absolutely adored her. I could read twenty books in this series just for Penelope. Her mix of common sense and compassion, pluck and caution was so well balanced that I could relate to her immediately. She draws on the best of literary governesses without feeling like a pastiche. Her love for pony stories and poetry gave her an underlying sweetness that seemed in place with her being 15 years old. I truly enjoyed this book thanks to Penelope.
This is definitely my favorite of Harris' books, although the movie kind of sucked. Who else could make the foresnsics process exciting? Plus the back tattoo in it is one of William Blake's drawings. Bonus!

I'm a little torn on whether or not I like this book. I liked the overall storyline and I loved the two main characters but there were some things that bothered me. The writing was a little bothersome, and there were long passages of description, especially in the beginning. The book had a definite gothic feel to it and it was pretty dark. Another issue was that it was hard to keep track of the characters because the names were similar and it was a tad bit confusing especially since the names were foreign. Otherwise I enjoyed the story, and I put the next book in my TBR

good one
Ten stars. Probably the most helpful book I've ever read. I expect to re-read this alot. Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology, and Biology all rolled into one. What could be better? These are all ideas I've heard before, but something about the way he's presented everything is just brilliant. I could hardly put it down. Happiness comes from between. I've never heard it said so well.
