This was the first book I read from David Sedaris, so I was attracted by his style of writing and humor. It felt more like I was listening to stand-up comedy or watching a sitcom rather than reading.

This book will make you smile and cry all at the same time. Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. Once I start a book I can't put it down. She is entertaining and I have never been let down by one of her books.

I picked up this book to get some ideas on how to pare down before moving into my first home. The most useful aspect of this guide is that it breaks down what can feel like an impossible task into much smaller tasks. Most of it was common sense, yet I did find it useful. I reinforced some things I was already doing, and gave me a few ideas to improve other areas. Nothing earth shattering here, but worth the quick read.

This book is an example of one that was built up too much by friends, so that I felt disappointed in it. I wanted more. And the ending was soo frustrating. I turned the last page and just said "WHAT? You've GOT to be kidding me." (And maybe that's a downfall with reading it on an i-pad. I really didn't know that was going to be the end. At least with a hard copy I would have realized it sooner.) With that said, I'm looking forward to discussing it because I do have lots of questions and comments. For starters, Marina's naivete about her relationship with Mr. Fox. Drove me crazy! I do like Ann Patchett's writing and Bel Canto is still one of my favorites, I just felt that I could have skipped large portions of the book and not missed much.
I really enjoyed this book ... I had no idea what to expect based on the title, but it was really enjoyable. The relationship between Ruth and her father is fascinating. This is the second book by John Irving I've read -- I will definitely read more!

Хубаво, но много кратко.

This is a wonderful book. Unlike any other Holocaust memoirs I've ever read, the author and narrator doesn't focus on the physical conditions of the concentration camps (and really less than a 1/3 of the book is set there) but instead uses the book as a sort of diary of her thoughts and impressions. She discusses her life before, during, and after the Holocaust with refreshing frankness. The author is not looking for pity or empathy, but simply telling of her experiences and thoughts. While she talks about some of the friendships that she has maintained during her life, her relationship with her mother is the most prominent. While there is a tone of contempt for her mother (as I think most liberal-minded women of this generation have for their house-wife mothers), the deep love and respect Ruth feels for her mother becomes apparent by the books end. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
یکی از معدود کتاب ها با نظرگاه دوم شخص مفرد و به راستی اعجاب انگیز

If you like Lifetime movies, this is the book for you. I, however, could hardly choke it down, and I could only finish it because I have a hard time not finishing books that I've started.
