Hmmm. I agree with another reviewer- too vague and too little information. Love the art, love the concept, but too abstract for the intended audience and not enough info for me to explain it to them.

There's a great range of pieces in here from formal experimentation to slice of life. The title story is about senior citizens talking dirty during sex and is really funny and fun while, ahem, "affirming" their sexuality rather than mocking it.

This book was less appealing and less entertaining for me because it was very confusing. Alan Lightman is basically applying a story to each of Einstein's theory about time. The stories were perplexing and ambigious, however, the theories were simple, but soundly illogical. Einstein has many theories about time, some for instance would be that time is circular, so people are doing the same things over and over again. Another example of Einstein's theories is that Time flows slowly, the farther one is from the earth. There are so many theories about time, however, most of them seems to be illogical because if time was the way Einstein viewed it to be, the why do we have demographic growth and decay? Demography seems to be a contradiction to most of Einstein's theories, hence, most of these ideas doesn't make any sense--logical sense. All in all, the theories were very interesting, however, the stories created by Alan Lightman were not as well written, and not as entertatining. Most of them were getting very repetitive, that's why by the end of the book, the readers can easily identify Lightman's writing style.

FINALLY. I have finally dragged myself through this entire book. My goodness. Here's the thing - there are some great nuggets in this book. I found some helpful tips on quieting my mind and appreciating stillness. But I could not get past the endless discussion of things like "the pain-body" and "emptiness is the essence of existence" and "your menstruation will become joyful" (seriously?!). It felt contrived and pompous. Meh.
