As a teenager I think it was thrilling that the Author Elicia, could capture the very mind and thinking of a teenage girl. I know some of the grammar was bad, but it almost added to the mystery of what was going on. Devin, the main character, was kidnapped, forced to kill, and then, at 16, has to reenter the world, all the while the kidnapper is watching, waiting for his chance to steal her once more. Her mind goes in and out of reality, as I am sure it would in real life. I am waiting for more books from Elicia and look forward to reading them all. she is my new favorite Author.

I liked this book, but it always creeped me out a bit. At the same time, I appreciated the magical darkness of it.
I may never finish this very short book.

This book is fantastic, and anyone who loved Sassy growing up will appreciate ever bit of the story these authors tell. From the inception of Sassy as an American equivalent of the Australian mag Dolly, to the downfall of "Stepford Sassy". Aside from remembering the articles mentioned in the book, my favorite moment was the bitter letter the new writers and editors of Sassy published in response to the flood of questions they were receiving about the changes that occurred when a new publisher purchased the mag. I had forgotten how angry and mean the new staff was about the love people had for the original folks. I have a massive box of old Sassy magazines that I look through every few years. The greatest gift my grandmother ever gave me was a subscription to Sassy magazine. Oh Sassy, how I miss you.

Love it when Mule hollow and Dry Creek come together! This was another great storyline for both Debra Clopton and Janet Tronstad. The characters that we have all come to know and love still make their appearances in their respective towns. I love how the fact that sisters are trying to find their own niece and nephew and in the process find out more about themselves and the family they never knew. Both face uphill battles with the guardians of both of the children, but in the end love of family wins out and both find a their match that God has picked just for them. I also love how the fact that adoption is talked about...there are negative and positive experiences for all involved. Ultimately one can't put all their faith and hope in man, only God can truly fill that roll as our Father. The analogy to us being adopted into his family is woven through both of these tails and the test of faith each person encounters along the way only makes them stronger. Can't wait to see what happens next in Mule Hollow and Dry Creek!

At first, the build-up was too repetitive: Britt really does spend a lot of time asking herself, "Why is Bran acting like this?" before actually piecing together her brother's behavior. Despite this initial lackluster method of establishing suspense, Haddix eventually delivers enough of a "twist" that I can recommend this book for young readers who enjoy mysteries. However, make sure you give this book to a dedicated young reader-- lest the protagonist's initial cluelessness bore him or her before reaching the meaty part of the novel. As an aside note: I love the way Haddix built the character of the elderly woman next door (Mrs. Stuldy). There are quite a few good lessons to learn about people in this book. I don't have the book with me for an exact reference, but I adored Mrs. Stuldy's words-- "If nobody ever built something good on top of something bad, the world would be a very sad place." (approximation) Overall, by the book's end I enjoyed it very much.
I liked this a lot! This is a worth while book to read! =)

This took a while to get into. A long while. I loved the 2nd half!
