I liked this book quite a bit, as did my eleven-year-old daughter. Amanda wakes up and it's her eleventh birthday. It should be a great day, but she's dreading it. Her first ten birthdays were celebrated with Leo, who was also her best friend, but during last year's party, she overheard him saying some hurtful things about her, and they haven't spoken since. This morning, her dad is sick, her mom has a big meeting at work, and she has to ride the bus. The day just goes downhill from there. After freezing with back-spring performance anxiety during the gymnastics team tryouts, she goes home to get ready for her birthday party that she's not too excited about. She's wondering how she ever thought a dress-up party would be a good idea, her dad won't be able to DJ too well since he's still sick, her Dorothy shoes are giving her blisters, and most of her friends want to ditch her party early to go to Leo's. She is so glad when the day is finally over. When the alarm rings the next morning, and her parents and sister again act like it's her birthday, she thinks they are playing an elaborate joke on her, but it soon becomes clear that it IS her birthday -- again. It's fun to see how her different reactions in the exact same situations lead to results that are at times surprisingly similar to previous times. On the third repeat, she discovers that the day is looping for Leo also, and this cosmic phenomenon lead to their reconciliation and learning important life lessons that otherwise would have taking years.

This is my other absolute favorite Sci-Fi short story collection. And Housing Problem might be one of my favorite short stories ever.

I'm not a romance novel reader, but I read this book because Meg Cabot is my favorite fluff author and I thought the premise of having Princess Mia write the novel was cute (it's the novel she wrote in Forever Princess). It was actually quite a cute little historical romantic adventure story.
my aunt gave this to me. i don't know what else to say.

Interesting cast of characters living in the same condo.Touches on how all are so involved with themselves and everyday life that we don't really know ourselves or others. Not an original idea or execution but done in her own inimitable style.

The Grapes of Wrath was the first book I had ever read that 'blew me away'. I was completely in awe of Steinbeck's craft. That being said, I have started The Grapes of Wrath at least 5 or 6 times, and I am almost a little embarrassed to admit that this is the first time that I've actually finished it. (If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try, try, try, try again.) But I knew, from the very FIRST time that I started it, that it was an absolute masterpiece and Steinbeck's writing would be the measuring stick to everything else I read. I think my struggle to stick with Steinbeck is perhaps mirrored in many other people. He is a challenge. You need to find his tempo in the slow sections which is hard, if not at times impossible, to do. However, there's a part of you that knows that if you finish, you'll be rewarded. I can't imagine having to be forced to read this for school, and I think it is sort of like a torture tactic to have force anyone to read this book. You literally need to WANT to want to read this book. The first part of this book chronicles the Joad's travel to California. This is perhaps the longest and most difficult section to get through, but is necessary for the second half of the book. The second half reads almost like a cliff hanger - you just can't stop reading about the Joad's. The interluding chapters read like poetry, and my heart sang with every small, feeble victory the family had, and I felt despair in my stomach with every disaster. I will always remember the one small line about the baby Rose of Sharon had. And I will always wonder about Tom. I plan on picking this book up from time to time. Even if I have to try at it over and over. If you've started to read this book, and feel that it is special, then don't give up on it. You might not be quite ready for it now, but make it a point to try again in a few weeks, in a few months. The reward of the journey is worth it!
