reminded me of going to the hospital to visit my mother in the 50s. O..those ramps...
A friend sent this to me because it is written about Concord, where I live. I thought it was interesting, but perhaps a little too predictable in the "everybody has a secret in small towns in new england" theme.
Book club selection for Nov. I read it 7 years ago and loved it. I hope I am not disappointed. I have to admit that I was kind of bummed to learn that we are reading a book I already own. I have a book buying addiction and was looking forward to a trip to Borders this weekend. There is a newer edition out with cooler cover art. . . maybe I will pick up a second copy. You can never have too much A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, right?
This is the BEST James novel of them all. If anyone chooses to read James, this should be the novel.

This "true life novel" relates the story of the author's grandmother, who was something of a firebrand. Her story is interesting, but the book lacks a narrative structure that makes the story compelling. Unlike the author's own memoir, The Glass Castle, there is no sense of real drama here. However, the author did a fine job of capturing the voice of Lily Casey and depicting her outlook on life. I think this book would not be as interesting if one had not read The Glass Castle.

This book is amazing. So powerful and eye-opening to the purpose of the church and what we are to do about the social/poverty issues surrounding us in a Biblical manner.
Generally, I don't like reading short stories but this proved the exception. Every story was a gem. Her first novel The Namesake is amazing as well.

OMG, so good! I love the way everything was resolved. It didn't feel forced, which many resolutions do. This was a great first book. No wonder he has become a famous writer.
