Great collection of short stories of people of Bengali origin. I'm not sure that it met my expectations of a Pulitzer Prize winner, but each short story has it's own attributes, even though each is about a person/persons that have a disconnection with the world or are lonely. I would definitely recommend to others even though!

Set in 16th century Italy this retelling of Snow White combines elements of the fairy tale with the story of the famous Borgia family - The hedonistic pope, his mad incestuous children. Bianca's father is sent on an impossible mission to bring back a branch of the tree of wisdom (from the garden of eden) and leaves his daughter in the care of Lucrezia Borgia. From here the story goes the traditionally route with Bianca as Snow White & Lucrezia as the evil queen. Generally Maguire's retellings leave out most if not all the magical aspects of the fairy tale but in "Mirror, Mirror" he allows the magic to stay along side the 'reality'. I didn't like the way it ended but I did like the story and recommend it as a pretty good Snow White retelling.

Very well written book. Descriptive writing that tells all about the relationship between the man and his son. Had to give it three stars as the whole story is depressing as hell...literally.

I liked the book, but it was too long. I really liked the angle he took and the principles although out of date, still apply today -- but it is really the critical approach he takes to the art of selling that I appreciated learning from. A must-read if you work in traditional advertising.
