I actually did not finish this book. (Sorry, Ellen.) I zipped through a lot of it--and suddenly found that I did not care about the characters any more. Maybe if it were shorter. . .

Maureen set up a really strong foundation in the first third of the novel, and John Green didn't fail to deliver in the middle. The weakest part was in Myracle's portion of the novel, but even that was a really strong end, tying up all the loose ends. A really adorable, lovely holiday read. I definitely plan to read this again closer to the holidays.

This was such a fun book to read, being a Kansas native, and having lived right around the places where this book takes place. Much of the book takes place in Hays, where I went to both High School and College, and on the first day of the cattle drive, the main characters venture to Paradise, which is my hometown. Having said all that, I think this book would appeal to people regardless of where they grew up, because of the entertaining way in which it's written, the colorful characters, and the fast pace of the book. It's not very long and it moves right along. It's a really easy book to read and the ending is very good.

I'm really loving this series. They are so honest and real and absolutely hilarious!! Mia is a normal girl, pouring everything into this fabulous diary and although she's a princess, what she has to say resonates with other teenage girls. I devour these books. It only took me two days for this one. Both the 1st and 2nd are very easy, light, and enjoyable reads!!

Applying the tools of economics to issues outside of its usual purview, Levitt explores the stories behind the demographics of names, drug dealing, sumo wrestling, and other disparate subjects, in a refreshingly apolitical fashion. Without dismissing the importance of cultural values, he challenges some of our most deeply held tenets in a manner that one might view as deliberately outrageous if not for the statistical clarity with which he presents his arguments. Where many might take offense at some of the subject matter, I felt truths were being revealed to me without the hidden hand of an agenda, and was given hope that the world may actually not be as absurdly random as it often seems.

4 star science thriller (top 25% of the genre). Part of James Rollins' always-fun Sigma Force series featuring military special ops scientists. For my full review, see ScienceThrillers.com

read it in about 2 days. it was recommended to me. I did enjoy it but I found myself getting really annoyed and angry with the characters - even the autistic child. horrible? maybe or maybe it wasn't written that well...who knows. it's a decent book but it frustrated me.

Type: Novel How I Heard About It: My friend Jordan wrote a paper on it for psychology class on the possibilities of animal language. She got a good grade so I figured it was worth a read. How I procured it: The Wooster Book Company Ratings (1-5) Story: 4.5 Writing: Don't remember Would I read it again? Yes, in fact it's in my queue right now. Who would I recommend it to? Science lovers, animal lovers, anyone who loves a good intriguing story. Did it remind me of anything? Not at the time, although I think of it often now because it so often sounds like my dog is trying to speak to us. Comments: This novel kept me extremely involved, since I finished it in one night. Even though I'm not a linguist or a scientist and don't really understand the issues of dog language, I appreciated the cause and found what these people were doing in the novel to be horrendous. I found myself being like, "Don't do that!" at parts and cried at other parts. This novel totally made me want a dog, just because of all the comfort his dog was giving him after such a tragedy. The flashbacks to their relationship were amazingly cute, I found the wife's job so interesting. I love language and linguistics, so his fascination with words also kept my interest. And of course the dogs... Written simply yet flowing, the style was easy to follow and the structure with the flashbacks was very appealling. I'd find myself going back and forth because she'd stop a scene in the middle and I'd be hanging dry.
