Not the best written book, but thoroughly enjoyable , interesting and her characterisations were wonderful. Three and a half stars is what I really would rate this book.

Wonderful book, and I met the author at a Borders signing a year or so ago...sweet and charismatic. And saw her in a TED online lecture that was very inspiring.

I learned so much about vineyards in this book even though it was classified as a "romance novel". She really researches her stuff. And as an avid lover of the vino I appreciated that.

I can't believe this book is even in the same series!! It is a drastic change from the first two and I'm having a hard time listening to all the gore. hopefully finish listening on my commute home tonight. So disappointed after I loved the first two! I finished it. Ending was better than I expected. Still least favorite of series.

This book really kept my attention. It's funny how sometimes you find yourself identifying with the "bad guys". Only a good author can make that happen.

Alot of people have described this universe as a cross between Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders and Patrick O'Brien's Master and Commander. The first 3 books were released in paperback within months of each other, though I believe there is an omnibus version with all 3 novels. The author has a website at [http://www.temeraire.org]

This is a novel which is actually a series of linked stories about life in an itinerant Japanese family. The narrator, the oldest girl, Olivia, has a detached narrative voice. The descriptions of her work at the chicken hatchery, the area of Arkansas in which she lives and her relationship with her grandmother are evocative and sometimes frightening. It's a really interesting, but not compelling in the way most novels are. For example, there's something so much life an essay-quality to these chapters. I was never sure when a chapter was ending. I literally couldn't tell by the tone or the ending of a particular narrative. Strange, but really well written. I'm left waiting to see how feel about this. Will it continue to haunt me? Will it be memorable simply because it is so different in tone? It's about a world I don't know. And perhaps, having this window on it, I'll eventually realize how compelling it actually was for me. It's labled YA...definitely not, as far as I'm concerned.
I loved this book. I was surprised by the theological undercurrent. The book is an interesting metaphor for one's personal redemption. The adventure story is enthralling as well.

Anyone who thinks the Twilight series is any good should give this a read, and then forget all about Edward. This stand-alone book is the best of the young-adult vamp novels I have read. Thrilling, imaginative, engrossing. Nothing Mormon about it.
