a great addition to refuse to choose by barbara sher. i read them at about the same time. this one is a bit more general about having more than one interest, but provides even more advice about how to accomplish a lot when you want to do many different things. very positive and empowering as well as practical. i really like her treatment of the subject- like the guidance counselor or career advisor who tells you it is possible to do it all in a way that will still create financial security and happiness.

I saw the movie movie version of this book first--since it came out before the book--and thought it was a charming, original story. I thought the book was even more so. Elodia Strain's writing is so witty and quick, her characters are quirky but still very believable. I laughed so much while reading the book. And, even though I had seen the movie and knew the premise, Ms. Strain had added many new characters and situations that it almost seemed like I was experiencing the story for the first time. I really loved this book and I'm glad to own my own copy so I can read it again!

Loved it. Was reading it at 2am. Couldn't put it down. Ruined my sleep and my health. Good thriller. Not sure I want to read thrillers anymore. this one I would recommend though. It moved. I cared about the characters. Plot twists were good. Didn't really involve a serial killer which was pleasant for a change (with thrillers) but there certainly enough death to remind me it was a thriller.

Again, this is one I require for my novel course, and it's one of my favorites. It's about how we bury the atrocities we commit upon one another. In this case, it's about a little boy sent by the Kindertransport to Wales, then having his identity erased by the good couple who rescued him. Much more than that, but it's complex and intelligent.

I know these books are very popular with some of my friends. I like the premise, but I have a tough time with the characters. Bella and Edward lose me as they wallow in their issues. (Especially with Bella marveling at how beautiful and perfect Edward is.) I zipped through the book in two days, reading it like you eat candy after plodding through the Zen book right before this. The story was fine and it kept me interested enough to continue the series after this book. Still loving my iPad for reading!

Oh, man, was this good. Talk about movie in the making. (Don't you worry Brad Pitt, I'll still go see your zombie movie when you finish.) Have to say, it's your typical zombie story...zombie virus hits the Earth, mostly everyone dies, small groups of survivors try to, uh, survive. Anyway...isn't that what makes 'em so fun? The action pretty much doesn't stop. The last sentence of the book was awesome. (Don't look!! You'll regret it. I accidentally did. Doh!) Totally leaves it open for a #2, which would be a-ok with me, but I would also like the book the way it ended without a second, so we'll see what the author does with it.

I fell in love with this book because of its descriptions of the sere and expansive American West. Yet it's experienced by a woman torn between the east -- the values imbued from Victorian-era New York upbringing -- and west -- her fascination with the land around her. History, love, struggle, blame, pride: Stegner blends these subtly and beautifully in this book. (Thanks Thea for leading me to it!)
this book took me a while to get into, but once it got going i liked it well enough. it was a bit disjointed which was annoying, but it had some really nice moments in it and some wonderful things about religion which i enjoyed.
