This may be one of my favorite books of all time. Dorthea Brooke=greatest heroine of 19th century literature? I'd love to start a debate on this. This edition from Penguin is quite helpful; it contains a lot of historical notes that enrich the text.

Not sure what to really say about this book. I liked it enough, but it is a pretty depressing book as well. I'm also not sure if religion is a driving part of this book, or if it is just something that was their in the writers life.

Decided to read this after reading The Birth of Venus-another Sarah Dunant that's just as good-If you like historical fiction you'll like this. Good beach/vacation read.

It's a fun read. short, uplifting, and dreamy. The language is rather simplistic, so only giving it four stars haha. Just re-read this again, and I enjoyed it moreso the second time around.

This book was so amazing. I was inspired to read it when I read Love on the Lifts. I never wanted to put it down because I kept wanting to see what would happen next. I was surprised at the end and didn't think that would be a part of the book. I guess you could say that it wasn't completely predictable. :)
** spoiler alert ** B & N online book review book. This is where B&N sends out a book free (that isn't out there yet) and you just need to add to the online discussion with other reviewers and the author. This book was okay. The topic of witches in Salem and current research was juicy but the author didn't do so well with it all. Poor character development. "Magic" scenarios without anyone in the book being particularly spooked. I did like the flashbacks to 1600s in Salem.

Read this in 7th grade. It's part of DNA although no longer a Doors fan and not sure why I liked them.
What an astounding memoir. Even though The Hiding Place and The Diary of Anne Frank are of course amazing accounts of the war and concentration camps, this book gave me much more of a feel for what the war was like and the devastation and atrocities that took place. Alicia's account greatly differs from the other books by telling what happened to Jews that weren't taken into concentration camps. We hear so many stories about the camps (and rightly so), but I have to admit it never occurred to me to wonder what happened to all the other Jews throughout Europe who managed to escape the Nazi's and being taken to the camps. Alicia's story is awe inspiring, I'm still dumbfounded that she was in her early teens when she experienced all she did, her strength is like nothing I have ever read before. My only criticism (and it's minor) it that it is written so poorly, it does a disservice to the telling of a must-read account of the extermination of millions of Jews.
not a huge fan.
