Loehfelm does a nice job of developing his protagonist here, who is a much more believable witness-turned-investigator than is typical of the genre. How heartening is it to see a writer who will actually let his lead do reasonable things like involve the police, rather than letting her be ridiculous for the sake of the plot? The mystery ends up being a bit thin, but between this and his debut (Fresh Kills) Loehfelm's an author to watch.

These are really good books for teens that like to read about action. I loved Pretties, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, so I read the next book. lol.

it's convenient for john berendt that everyone he wanted to talk to was insanely good-looking and insanely sophisticated and insanely fawning-all-over-him. I remember thinking that midnight in the garden of good and evil was kind of fun, but this book . . . wasn't. there was no big mystery, there was no anything, really. except for venetian society being mighty impressed with j. berendt.

This was like a walk through the faerie kingdom with no plot, no excitement and no climax. It was very wordy (which I usually like) and the poems and songs were good, it just didn't seem like much of a story.

There is a lot of just plain cool stuff in this book: geocaching, a trip to China (which brought back some fun travel memories), heartfelt artwork, and a hot Asian Goth guy. I do agree with most that this one is better than the first one and I could not put it down! I hated that I had to go out and get the third one because I couldn't stop reading the second.
